By backwards, I mean that I don't think Gamespot is improving, but rather subtracting good things and making them less enticing for people who have been a member for a few years.
Hello by the way :D
Back to the topic... Here are a couple of noticeable setbacks that in my opinion are decreasing my attraction to the site:
- The first thing is the design choices. On the main page of a game, you used to be able to click following which would then bring up a neat, small menu that allowed you to pick if you wanted to add a game to your tracking list, wish list, now playing list and collection. It worked successfully and did not require a change. But Gamespot thought otherwise. Instead, on the game page now, you can only follow it. To get the other options you have to type the name of the game 100% accurately into the search bar which lists possibles related to what you typed. It isn't a big issue and you're probably thinking "Scott, that's a petty complaint", but unfortunately the system doesn't always register what you type in, and brings up a list of games irrelevant to what you want. Perhaps being picky, but I just liked the way it was before.
- Secondly, is one choice lately that is clear as day and blatantly not as good. Game scores. Where has the nice bold score of a reviewed game gone, which was clear and attractive next to the title on the top games page for PS3 or other pages? Now the score is very small and in the corner of an image that links you to the review or trailer. What was the point? Changes are meant to be for the better, and in my honest opinion taking away the good-looking score and replacing it with a small print is a crap idea.
- Thirdly, the user reviewing system is hit-and-miss now. You used to click on the user reviews and see a pie chart showing the margins that people scored. That has been scrapped completely. When you try and edit a review, the change which used to instigate immediately now refreshes the page to exactly what was there before, leading to confusion to believe whether it has actually changed. It has, but it takes up to a day to change. Why?
- And lastly, is a mixed complaint about the technical issues and glitches that crop up randomly, aswell as the crappy Fuse which I wish was never invented. From my profile I used to be able to click on friends and see a list of my friends, who I'm tracking and vice versa. Now however, I get transported to a website I don't want to be a part of, whether it's connected to GS or not. The same goes for game updates where I used to be able to click by my inbox, but now have to go to my profile and click the link from there to stay on this site just to see them. Then there is the glitches. I've encountered multiple frustrating errors lately, such as no one being allowed to comment on my blogs, reviews disappearing, and others.
Gamespot just isn't as good as it used to be, and the changes I fear will only keep subtracting from the like factor that used to be so high back when I joined, hence the reason I don't blog often, or remain active for long. This is just an opinion blog, as many others may like the changes. I for one, do not. :|
