#10 - Grizzly Bears - Red Dead Redemption
It may surprise you this choice is on the list, but bare with me.
The Grizzly Bears are located in Red Dead Redemption in the Tall Trees area. Venturing into that area raises the tension and the atmosphere, and I never would have expected to say Red Dead Redemption can certainly get quite scary. Being chased by a pack of grizzly bears is intense and nerve-wracking, not only because of their silent approach (typically coming from behind you) but because they take plenty of bullets before dying. I love getting scared, and the best way in this game to do that, is to venture on foot, all alone, under the night sky into the Tall Trees area. They can appear anytime, and your vision is always limited because of the sheer amount of trees. Becoming under seige by about 6 in a remote cabin far into the woodland is certainly an experience I won't forget :P

#9 -Child Crusaders - Jericho
Brought to Al-Khali by the disfigured Bishop Maltheus St. Claire, their innocence were meant to protect them against the Saracen "Infidels". Instead they were massacred, and their tortured souls now linger in eternal damnation within the walls of Jericho.
These menacing demons encountered in Clive Barker's Jericho, are creepy in appearance and in their attacks, with which they show no mercy from their tortured souls.

#8 - Feral Ghouls - Fallout 3
Easy to dispatch (critical headshots make for some beautiful limb dismemberment :P ) they only pose a real threat during Fallout 3 when in numbers, but navigating sub-basements orabandoned subwaysin almost complete darkness can make for some unnerving moments, especially when you hear a cry from one, and hear scuttering footsteps getting louder and louder whilst they close in on you. Their bubbly skin and cannibalistic nature is a scary enough motive to blow their brains out, and as you can see, their appearance is quite distrurbing.

#7 - Pyramid Head - Silent Hill Homecoming
Pyramid Head (also known as The Boogeyman) is a scary adversary that you don't encounter in battle throughout Silent Hill Homecoming, but whichserves as a minor, albeit important role throughout the game, and he retains his namesake's pyramidal helmet and characteristic Great Knife that make his few and brief encounters with him very chilling indeed.
Often the nervous tension develops when you can't see the monster itself, but hear the huge great blade being dragged across the floor somewhere nearby out of your vision.

#6 - Splicers - Bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2
Splicers are the main enemies within the BioShock series. The remains of Rapture's human population, they are the result of the violent conflict during the Rapture Civil War. During this war and the chaotic days that followed, the splicers apparently murdered most of the sane population of the city. Due to abusive ADAM consumption, their bodies and minds have been deformed beyond repair (though some of their physical deformities can be attributed to Dr. Steinman's plastic surgery), and they have become dependent on the substance, both mentally and physically. Many of them still wear Masquerade Ball masks, perhaps out of shame at how ADAM has deformed their bodies.
These truly chilling enemies plague Rapture's hallways and rooms in search of ADAM and while their minds are completely unfocused and seem to bring forward conversations from the past, they will show you pure hatred and aggressiveness as soon as you make yourself visible in their presence, and make for memorable enemies in such memorable environments.
