Hello everyone (or no one) to my little Journal. Figured I'd give it a try since I had nothing else to do. Lets see...where to start. Well, I own a Playstation 2, a Gamecube, a Nintendo 64, a Sega Genesis, and Gameboy Original, Color, Advance, and SP. My favorite games are the Metal Gear series (hope you realized), Legend of Zelda series, Final Fantasy series, and after playing Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil series. It's funny that I like FF, because I've never beaten one before. I have IV-XI (minus IX) and Tactics, and I haven't beaten any of them. I've gotten close on Tactic, V, and X, but just never got around to beating them.
Legend of Zelda is a long time favorite. Zelda: Link's Awakening for Gameboy was one of the first video games I ever got, first one for my Gameboy anyway. For the longest time I couldn't understand it and didn't play it (I was around 6 at the time) but I remember around the time I was 8 I had gotten into it and thought it was great...until I got to the end of the second dungeon. In the room you get the Nightmare (Boss) Key, you had to kill the enemies in a certain order. I honestly tried every different combination and couldn't get the key. It wasn't until I was 9 or 10 when I went to a friend's house for a birthday party, I was looking in his old Nintendo Powers and there it was! A little guide to Zelda, showing which monsters to kill. After that I went and dusted off that old cartridge and together me and one of my best friends (who was also stuck at the same part) played Zelda together over the summer. I still remember all the good times we had, like the time I had just gotten out of another tough dungeon, and held my Gameboy in the air in celebration, and accidentally dropped it. If someone's talking about Zelda, they can't help but mention Ocarina of Time. That is absolutely up there in my (and everyone that owned a N64) Greatest Games of all time.
Guess next is Resident Evil. I had looked into getting Resident Evil 1 for the Gamecube back when I had decided to get a Cube, but never did. My friend (same guy as before) ending up getting it though, and at the time he said it was good. That was until Resident Evil 4 came on the scene. I had watch plenty of vids about it online and thought it looked great, but it wasn't until said friend got it, it rocked our world. He raved and raved about it, so I finally caved and spent the $50 on it (not something I like to do). Damn. Just damn. One of the best gaming experiences I've had in recent memory. Such a great game, great action, awesome graphics, wonderful soundtrack and vocals, I could go on. After beating it I promptly went out and got the RE 2-Pack from Gamestop (REmake and Zero). Sadly I'm too use to RE4's greatness, and don't like RE 0 and 1 much. I'm sure they're good, I just don't like the very limited inventory space and very limited ammo and health, but I know thats a RE staple.
Almost forgot Devil May Cry! ^_^ I know I didn't list it at the beginning, but it is also one of my newer favorite series. I guy I knew from school (not gonna say friend because I never liked him much) wanted to borrow my Zelda: Oracle of Seasons game, and he would let me borrow DMC. I didn't know anything about DMC, but I had already finished OoS so went along with this little deal. For a long time I didn't like DMC. I only played a couple levels, but I thought the Lava Spider thing was too tough (didn't know about Devil Trigger at the time) so I didn't play it. So after bugging the guy for a couple months, he came over to my house and gave me back Seasons. While he was there though, he wanted to borrow Zelda: Link's Awakening, and in return he would let me borrow DMC and Tony Hawk for Gameboy (some deal I know -.-). Sadly I went along with it. He had that Zelda for a long time, and I had bugged him about getting it back, but since we didn't have any of the same classes I didn't see him much. I later left that school, and it wasn't until about a week after I left I remembered he still had it! Anyway, I still have that THPS game, but I traded in his DMC when I went to get FFXI at EBGames. So about a year later I was looking into DMC on here and IGN, and it looked kickass. I ended up getting it at Target on Greatest Hits. I didn't know what my problem was before, but I quickly fell in love with it. After seeing and reading much about DMC3 I knew it would be the true heir to the DMC crown (which DMC2 apparently wasn't). I made sure to beat DMC before I got 3, pretty good ending. I'm currently playing 3, really good game so far. Just beat Beowulf on mission 11, can't wait to get the gauntlets on mission 14 (spoilers I guess).
And last, but no way in bloody hell least, the Metal Gear series. I came to realize how great video games were when I first played it. I had heard the name Metal Gear Solid, and knew it was a Playstation game and was suppose to be good, but thats all I knew. So one time I'm over at my friend's house (yet again same friend as one I played Zelda with and heard about RE4 from, not dumb ass who has my Zelda) and he has one of those new PS2s ( this was 2001 and I had a N64). So we're looking at his old Playstation demo disks, I find one that has Metal Gear Solid on it. I figured I'd see what it was about. I was reborn in the glory of Solid Snake that night. The demo consisted of the first couple of sections of MGS1, the first area with the guards, and the outside area with the snow and the helicopter. The whole stealth element, hiding in the shadows, and beating up the guards then running away just blew my mind. It took me and my friend forever just to get past the first section, but it only got better when we finally made it up that elevator. We discovered another staple to the MGS series: the cardboard box. After that I knew I had to get a PS2 and Metal Gear Solid 2. I've been playing Metal Gear ever since. I actually beat 2 before I got the original PS1 MGS1. I had beat both when I had found out about MGS: Twin Snakes for Gamecube. That game, pretty much on its own, was what made me get a Gamecube. I am definitely not disappointed I made that decision. Twin Snakes improved on what was also one of my Greatest Game experiences of all time. Moving ahead, I got Snake Eater for Christmas, played it on and off for a while, really got into it recently, and beat it on Saturday. I remember seeing the "leaked" trailer for Snake Eater a couple days before E3 2003 (it was 2003, right?) and was blown away all over again. I mean the jungle, man. This is gonna be different, but it should be great. And it was of course.
Well, I've written a pretty large amount of stuff for today. Guess thats all for now, I'm sure I'll write more about progression in DMC3, rants about how Sega has screwed me with Super Monkey Ball, and more about all things Metal Gear. Until then, see you next time.
