Crackdown
by Viryn_Sane on Comments
Crackdown comes out today, and after much thought and consideration...I think I'm going to buy it. I checked out the demo and it was pretty decent. I normally wouldn't buy a pretty decent game, but, come on...Halo 3 beta. Let's hope I don't get as addicted to Crackdown as I did with Gears...but I don't think that's possible.

The Evolution of Video Games
by Viryn_Sane on Comments
While I have been a member for some time now, I never really thought much about blogging. Why would I read someone else's thoughts? And how could I be so vain to think someone would care about what I am talking about? But the more I thought about it, I came to a simple conclusion...I am vain, so, I will expect people to read...that and I'm really bored at work and blogging about random stuff sounds like a good idea. Anyways, first blog entry introduction...over. Now on the meaty section.
Since I was a wee toddler, I can remember video games playing a huge part in my life. My parents, being the cool kids they were, owned an Atari system. Many nights we would sit at home and watch a little ball bounce back and forth...back and forth...back and forth...back and...you get the picture.
Fast forward a few years and you could find my mother and me sitting in front of a tiny TV playing a new state of the art game...Master Blaster. Such titles as A Boy and His Blob, Final Fantasy, and Metroid would soon follow. As NES disappeared, newer, shinier systems came in, with promises of grandeur in each bit of goodness. By the time Playstation 2 came out, we as gamers, were numb to the little changes made...we wanted bigger and better state of the art graphics...like Master Blaster! 8)
I never did stop playing video games, but I did lose that excitement I would get after a long day at school to come home and sit in front of the T.V. only to waste away my evening shooting zombies. I no longer cared about the games on the market. If there was a good game, I would play it...but only when I had free time. I didn't make time to play my games anymore...until now.
My younger brother got an XBOX 360 for Christmas. We were waiting for this for a while. We bought him almost every game that was out to date (excluding Viva Pinata) and we had a great time playing it. Gears of War was my personal favorite, but they were all so great, so shiny, so new! I could feel the excitement coming back, it was almost here, but not quite.
The excitement didn't finally hit me until earlier this week. After receiving my yearly bonus from work, I finally broke down and bought a 37inch 720p LCD HDTV. Soon after getting this, I realized...XBOX was made for this! I have got to try this. So I did, and I loved it! I just didn't love the whole fact of sharing it with the younger sibling. So, I convinced myself that since I will be moving out soon, I might as well buy my own XBOX 360 and why not throw in the XBOX HDTV peripheral.
So, now I'm set. I've got it all. The HDTV, the 360, the HDDVD player. Its amazing...and it is with this that I reach my point...
Back in the day, all that you needed with video games was a tv and a system. Over the years it slowly progressed until we find ourselves doing exactly what I did earlier this week, buying everything under the sun for the system. I'm not criticising Microsoft for this, because I couldn't be happier with my product. I've got everything I need here. The HDDVD peripheral is perfect too, because think about it...a cheap off the wall HDDVD player costs about $500 bucks. I bought a high end well known gaming system and a HDDVD player for $600. Doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. (in case you didn't do the math, the system is 400 and the hddvd is 200). I just find it amazing how video games have grown into what they are today.
Now that we are online now playing video games (which, granted, isn't new...but is being perfected) the video game world is going to be taken in a whole 'nother direction...but that, my friends, is for a totally different post.
Au revoir
