Though completely separate, the games managed to sell just fine without stating on the cover or the title and subtitle that it was Lord of the Rings.

Very good article one tidbit I'd add to it, though, is that Samur is The Seraphim.

The Seraphim is the one who gifted the Slayer his powers and I think it's directly stated in one of the codex's in Eternal that Samur was just his name.

They haven't revealed anything about the game so far. So it isn't surprising they've not said anything about the microtransactions.

How is crossplay multiplayer bad?

Better yet a more accurate analogy is with FF14.
Which is also crossplay, in which you have to make a Square Enix account to play it. Doesn't matter if you're on PS3, 4, or PC.
