Well the 2008 NASCAR season is finally coming to an end in just two weeks. To some, November 16 will be filled with cheers and tears. To others, that day will be just another day. I'm a member of the latter club.
I myself have a fan of the sport for 7 years now, and after you've watched it for 36 weeks during the year, it gets old. This season, however, has to be the worst season NASCAR has ever had entertainment-wise. You have drivers Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards winning every week, the Cup drivers are continuing to dominate and ruin all the Nationwide races, still no truck races on affordable channels, biased announcers for 24/36 weeks, green-white-checkered finishes are still not exciting, horrible playoff system, too many unseen cautions, impound races, shot goodyear tires, and rained out qualifying causes the races to be lined up by points. All the more reason to turn to another channel, go outside, or even talk to your wife. Also its football season, so why bother watching NASCAR?
If they try to fix these problems rather than just ignoring them like they have for years, then maybe the races will become watchable again. So get rid of all the unseen cautions and impound races. Make GWC finishes 5 laps instead of 2, and restart it if a caution comes out. Put only the best, non-biased announcers in the booth. Goodyear, fix up your tires. Put truck races on FSN or Fox. Limit the number of double-duty drivers for every race to 10. Line the drivers up not on points when qualifying is rained out. Eliminate drivers from the chase to make it, well, an actual playoff!
For all you fans out there feeling the same way, I know how you feel. If NASCAR wants to fix their sport, they need to fix up their problems. Maybe one day someone with a high position in the sport will stand up and make sure that ideas like these become a reality.
