I picked up Metroid Prime 3 (Wii) and Warhawk (PS3) last week, and I'm as satisfied with them as I am with BioShock. Metroid shines in its single-player campaign with slick gameplay controls and epic boss battles, while Warhawk brings home an intense, lag-free multiplayer experience not felt before since Starcraft or Counter Strike.
On a side note, there's still plenty of Fall releases to come, so stay keen on the new release charts!
SEPT 8: Super Metroid (SNES) for the Wii Virtual Console supposedly holds up very well today. After I play though Metroid Prime 3 I'll definitely pick it up at $8.
SEPT 9: One of my friends ranked on his blog the summer movies he saw. I'll do the same:
1. Transformers A-
2. Super Bad B
3. Simpsons B
4. Die Hard 4 B-
I enjoyed them all.
SEPT 13: Heavenly Sword came out today. I picked it up and I'm going to pop it in later tonight. Despite it falling short of its expected excellence, I'm very much looking forward to playing it.
I also pre-ordered Guitar Hero 3 for the Xbox 360 today. It actually has so many great songs, I can safely pass on Rock Band and save $200 -- I'll be sated with GH3.
I'm still having a wicked amount of fun with Metroid and Warhawk. Halo 3 is the next big release; it's of course THE big release in terms of popularity. But out of the games I'm looking forward to this year, Halo 3 is near the bottom. Understandable considering I've only played the first Halo for a couple days on my brother's Xbox, and my experience with Halo 2 is limited to a few short multiplayer bouts -- and this was also during the 5-or-so year period I stopped playing video games, so I wasn't in the mindset to fully appreciate them anyway (although I was honestly impressed with the first Halo, playing through some of the single player campaigns). Still, Halo 3 is going to be a lot of fun.
