World War II: 1939-Present Day

I may be alone here, but I must say that I'm pretty exhausted with WWII shooters now. Not that they're bad, I'm just saying that fighting a war that has happened over sixty years ago and playing them over ten years, game developers should take a break. Hell, this is the NEXT GENERATION...I want to shoot laser beams and pocket nukes at robotic zombies (or something of equality), not using outdated weaponry at enemies my grandparents fought.

It reminds me of the joke I told a friend once, when World At War was announced: "Hey, the joke's on me now. Instead of killing your relatives, this year I'll be shooting at my own ancestors." Still, with first person shooters crowding consoles and computers, games have a third epidemic: WWII games that flood the market on a yearly basis much like sports games do now.

Which brings another joke I told a friend a while ago: "When you don't have any ideas for a game, make a WWII shooter!" And by that I meant with so many shooters based on that concept, games have that "re-run" feel to it much like stale sitcoms do during late night television...the feared trail that no American dares to tresspass upon, unless he is seriously that bored.

I'm not saying that I hate the WWII franchise, rather that I hate the idea of WWII becoming a franchise. I mean, how much more can people siphon out of this ancient period of time before they finally decide to move on? Sport games come out every year because of updates towards rosters and plays (IDK, I'm not a sports person). You can't update a war that old, now can you? Well, unless someone wants to pick a fight with Germany (or Japan, if you're technical) again.
