If you were planning to buy a 23" 1080p monitor, or upgrade a current sub-1080p monitor, I say get a 3D 120Hz monitor. Most people who've done it, who've wanted to do it, haven't regretted it. 3D isn't a gimmick, it's not going to go away, and the advent of the 3DS is only going to increase the number of PC games designed around 3D capability. Actually, it's happening right before our very eyes anyway, and it's irreversible.
More importantly, 120Hz monitors allow for a smoother gaming/viewing experience with less motion blur. I don't think the '3D Ready" part is what adds much to the price tag, it's mostly the 120Hz premium. So the Acer GD235HZ would set you back about $370, or the new Asus VG236H which is bundled with the 3D Vision Kit is $499. I think they're both pretty good deals. Now it is a technology still in its infancy. My one concern is that these monitors are not HDMI 1.4 compliant. So they're not capable of playing back 3D PS3 content, for instance. You may want to wait until the compatability issues have all been worked out.
3D Ready, 120Hz monitors are the future though. I wouldn't doubt it for a second.

This pretty much sums it up. Are the 120Hz monitors the best out there then?
