As a dedicated gamer I play a lot of games. I generally don't play a lot of RPGs however as I tend to lose interest on games that take more than 20 hours. In the past I have spent a good deal of time with Oblivion (played almost 60 hours but never actually finished the main quest) and I also dabbled with Dragon Age for a little while before losing interest. I like the concepts of an RPG like character and weapon stats but I tend to be turned off by those RPGs like Dragon Age whichrequire lots of complicated party managment programming. The best RPG I've ever played was the Mass Effect series and I would venture to say those are extremely light on the RPG part.
I like a good midevil setting and amvery intrigued by the reviews of Demon's Souls. But I'm terrifiedby thewarnings that it's punishingly difficult. Ilike a good challenge if the challenge is in figuring out the best weapon or attack to exploit the enemy weakness but Idon't want an endless array of battlesthat are difficult because the enemy has 50 times your hitpoints and the only solution is to widdle away at them.If there is a methodolgy that requires planned stat and weapon building as well as careful studying of the enemy then I might really enjoy the game. But I don't want to be swearing at my controller because I've been beaten down repeatedly no matter what approach I take.
Also, are there any checkpoint saves in any of the dungeons or do you have to fight your way all the way through and beat the boss before getting a save? I will be very irritated if I have to replay an entire level to get to a boss and then get beaten down repeatedly as I struggle to figure out the best approach.
I don't know if I've described my tastes well enough for you to help me decide but please give me input on what you did and didn't like about it so I can help decide if I'm wasting my money. Thanks.
