Horror movies, the genre has defined movies in so many ways. It's a genre that has mothers telling their kids, "Don't watch that! It's full of things that's bad for your eyes!" A genre where those little kids end up watching it at cry to the mothers for nights with haunting nightmares (redundant?). It's a genre that has the only rating "For Disturbing Imagery." Horror just owns.
If there's any movies that we've grown up with that just really catch our... Well, not really our hearts but our minds, it's horror movies. The concepts of gruesome deaths, corny life lessons, bad acting, sex scenes and a common plot make this genre truly the most definitive and predictable; yet most entertaining. When it comes to dates, for example, the two movie choices come down to chick flick or horror flick. What makes a couple agree with one another easier than a horror movie? Duh! A Horror movie!
Gore is the holy grail of all entertainment. People love seeing deaths, even those people who sit and cringe at an eyeball deflating. It's all about the entertainment. If it wasn't for the gore, horror would just seem like a puzzle missing a border. Spraying blood on some random dude's face and watching him scream just has its own little "Ah..." like that feeling you get when you open a can and hear the psst!! Gore makes you not want to let your kids see the movie alone. We can all come to an agreement that if it wasn't for horror, action flicks would still be stuck with bloody noses and broken fingers.
So why am I a horror fan? It's simple. This day an age there's literally been 500,000+ movies that have come from Hollywood (alone). That's a lot of production that most people can't really sit down to enjoy within one lifetime (unless you have no life). So, people find that specific genre they dig the most. Horror brings the fear and yet the romance out of us all. Hell, horror can bring out the little laugh in us too! If it wasn't for movies like Evil Dead, horror would've never built up the reputation it's held today. Who's ever heard of Psycho? Or maybe Freaks? Exactly. Those are absolute claszic horror flicks but they got stuck in their own mode for their times and never evolved. Then the special effects hit. BAM! Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead - ZOMBIES!!! Zombies kicked off from the great George Ramero and now, we've got the genre on the top again. With the era now hitting it's peak in horror movies, we're stuck with these piece of crap remakes like My Bloody Valentine 3D. No thanks.
So, the point of the blog is always left with a question which I will leave at the end of this post. I love my horror. I really do. There's been no other movies I've appreciated more from than horror. Unlike any other genre, horror brings out excitement and thrill every time; no matter how corny. Though, most people don't get a good feel of that these days with the new horror crap flicks, we're always left with some great claszics.

I also met Darren Bousman (director of Saw 2, 3 & 4 and Repo! The Genetic Opera) when I went to the Repo! play. The guy is absolutely cool. After meeting him I was definitely hyped to be a horror fan.
