What was the first GPU you bought as a separate purchase ( not included with PC )

This was mine ( image from the web, not my own )

I bought it as the PC I had bought previously had an ATI all in wonder 16MB and it wasn't cutting the mustard in Quake 3. 32 MB felt so powerful!

Always a graphics whore.

Wow, what a coincidence. This was also my first video card purchase and for exactly the same reason (Quake 3). I can't remember for absolute certain that it was this exact one but I know it was a Creative something (Was the full name Creative Labs? Can't remember for sure) that was 32 megs. But it was also my last video card purchase cuz outside of the temporary obsession I had with that game I haven't cared about PC gaming.

Edit: Memory is telling me though that mine was probably a PCI version cuz I don't think the PC I put it in had an AGP slot.

Right. Well, since apparently there's no such thing as enough pixels for anything regardless of how small it is how's about a 64K smart-watch next?

According to Eurogamer it might.

Why DirectX 12 is a game-changer for PC enthusiasts

Richer, denser visuals, better scalability - plus the opportunity for AMD to properly get back into the game.

As long as it keeps selling the way it is what would be the point of a price cut? The company is broke after all.

Ugghh, then what the hell is the controller screen for?

It's like a giant screen DS, really.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh ... so the question once again becomes how do you look at the controller screen and the TV screen at the same time? You can see both screens at once with a DS, hence why it works. But trying to simulate that with a controller and TV doesn't work. It's not innovative, it's silly.

I didn't read the entire thread but I have some "negatives" for the PS4 that I think are valid.

TC talks about the consoles build quality when the PS4 is the first system in Video Game history that doesn't sit level and wobbles if you touch it.

The controller. TC'S bullet point makes it sound average at best and yet it is used in his list of reasons why it's the best console of all time? That's kinda strange.

Yes the PS4 is the most powerful video game console to date. That can't really be debated. But I would say the rumble in the triggers of the Xbox One controller and the screen of the Wii U game pad offer bigger gameplay innovations than a light and a TouchPad. Pair that with the battery life of the DS4 and I think the controller could be listed as a negative. That and none of the other consoles have problems sitting level.

All other points are fine. Power, UI, and I would even list multiplats being better as a bullet point. If a person is only going to buy one console, it should be the PS4.

I haven't played WiiU but just looking at it I don't get it. How can ya watch that screen on the controller and the TV screen at the same time?

Far too often have I seen Xbox sympathizers spout out this drivel, that PS4 is enjoying a diminished victory because Xbox One and Wii-U suck. In other words, "It's not that hard to beat sucky competition"

Well kids, who's fault is that? Did not Nintendo come from an extremely successful last gen? Was the 360 not Microsoft's most successful foray into the console market? Microsoft and Nintendo's failure's this gen are as a result of poor planning and execution. Sony came off an atypical generation for them, and returned back into form.

TLDdr; PS4 is winning because it's GREAT. Microsoft and Nintendo are losing because they chose to FAIL.

SDC.

I think MS was doing pretty well in the console business prior to Don Mattrick. That guy set the brand back years.

@Chozofication: don't think it does anymore. And GOG will provide you with a DRM free version if you have Witcher 1 or 2

Well I read they patched Witcher 1, but it still has issues.

You mean, if I buy the steam versions that are on sale right now, GOG will give me the DRM free versions for free?

I nearly bought the first Witcher for PC before. But then I discovered it has no native controller support and that was a deal-breaker for me.

Actually the consoles were outclassed in 2012 with the 7970.

Hell, they were already outclassed by 7870. 2.5 tflops vs 1.8 and 1.3.
