I would like to see AI that is capable of holding conversations, like real, intelligent humans. Having AI work with dialouge trees dynamically would be awesome in RPGs.
Another part of the problem is uncreative developers who play it safe. Art advances through experiments like Jackson Pollack, The Beatles and Samuel Beckett. With tough economies and cramped budgets, developers are unwilling to try out new styles of gameplay and expression in fear of failing.
What is art? That's a question that must be answered before video game can be considered as art? For me, the individuality of the artist must show up within the piece. Are there games out there where the developer's individuality shines? Yes. Are they common? No.
