Everyone has a gaming timeline. And usually, the most proud will like to say 'I got on board with the ol' Nintendo system, and I've been hooked ever since'; and then those who try to out do them will go back further with Atari. Well, I did start out on the Atari. But I really consider myself a Gamer after the Nintendo came out. Back when I was around 9, my dad bought me the Nintendo. Probably to distract me and my twin from the arguments between my parents (Divorces are silly. :3), but at an early age, I got hooked. Throughout Elementary school and High School, I spent most of my free time playing Video Games, especially RPGs (which I still adore).
But... so many years down the road, it feels like a lot of my gaming yearnings have slowly been absolved from me. I really thought the Wii was going to be some kind of Revolution that would bring me tons of new experiences. However, a year later since it's been released, not even five games I'd really want to play have come out. And the game I was most looking forward just got bumped to next year. So for me, a gamer, I look towards other areas to help get my satisfaction. And in this generation so far, not much has come to me as something of interest.
The 360, while I'm starting to warm up to the thing, still has little to justify my purchase. I did pick up the last Xbox and I felt utterly burned on the experience with only 3 games coming out on it's life cycle that I liked, and because of that hugely negative experience I'm generally staying away from it. (And... when I stepped near it one day while not wearing any socks, the side of the contraption cheese grated my foot. The Xbox is a weapon...). And so far, I don't think generally fit in with most people that I've met who are attached to the system. I don't enjoy most Shooter games, and I don't enjoy driving games. Sports games haven't held any of my interest (save for... Wii Sports, if you'd call it a sports game) since the SNES. As I've already eliminated 94% of what comes out on the system, there is practically nothing left on the system. And those games are Viva PiƱata and Beautiful Katamari.
And right now, the PS3 hasn't exactly provided me with a lot of incentive to join either. Granted, Little Big Planet looks like it'd be interesting, as goes Metal Gear Solid 4. But not much really screams out 'Buy' to me on most of the systems.
Have I been wavering on my gaming stance because I haven't been feeling fulfilled over the last year? Link was pretty good, but that experience isn't going to last an entire year. Where are the games that'll make me quiver with joy; games that'll make me go to EB Games and slap down a pre-order? When will I feel kin to the gaming world once more? I want /new/ gaming experiences. Not the same old with different features and different graphics. When can I conclusively say that something can rival the fun I've had on my Nintendo, or my Super Nintendo, or my PS2?
