Mary Ann Collins

In some "non-denominational" circles, Mary Ann Collins is extolled as a "former Catholic nun" and an "expert" on Catholicism. In a lot of ways, her assertions about Catholicism are on par with those of Jack Chick (detailed below). Unlike Mr. Chick, however, there is little or no evidence that Ms. Collins actually exists, and no evidence of note that she was ever a nun as she asserts. Only one or two people have come forward with news of actually receiving a reply to their email correspondence with Ms. Collins, and the responses themselves are the sort one might expect from writing to Betty Crocker.

In other words, Ms. Collins may well be -- and probably is -- a fraud, a "sock puppet" identity of someone with more sinister intentions as opposed to actually being a concerned ex-nun.

If anyone is curious, the WHOIS information for Ms. Collins' website -- Catholic Concerns -- is as follows:

I'm generaly skeptical about people who go to added lengths to protect their identities in some ways while simultaneously making claims about themselves, and about Catholicism, that depend on an accurate understanding of the true identity and history of the person making the claims. The elusiveness that Ms. Collins demonstrates would seem to fly in the face of the various statements she makes concerning the Church and her participation in it.

To say nothing of the fact that her various claims, which another GS user links to, are about as defensible as those of Jack Chick (which are rebutted below).
