As for the game favoring the pass, that's unfortunately how it is in the real NFL right now. The official rules favor the passing game, and personally I think too much so. Honestly, watch a video of a real NFL game from the late 80's or early 90's and compare it to today's game and you will see my point exactly. I don't like it one bit but at least Madden is mirroring real life in that respect. I do agree the defensive AI could be a lot better, but the game is still better that a 6.0.
I think a rating of 6.0 is probably a little unfair. From the other reviews I've read, I would guess the game is probably a 7.5 this year. I agree the game and the way it's being handled needs some major improvements. The first and most obvious being that EA should stop discontinuing basic features of the game like Owner Mode only to cause hardcore Madden fans to viciously complain so that EA can bring it back by introducing a "new mode" of game play the next year, but to say that the game is just a roster update every year is getting old and losing merit. EA is constantly looking for ways to refine and improve the gameplay engine and the Infinity engine was just put in last year. Honestly people, how different is real football from year to year? Do we turn on the tv and get upset when we realize that NFL football is almost no different from last year, the exception being new players and different rosters? I do agree the game should have more depth and that EA should not hold an exclusive license to use NFL players in their game, but to imply that the engine is the same each year and with just a roster update is just plain not true anymore and is beginning to sound like whining and not objective criticism.
