I see this as a good thing, but I do wonder about the quality of the components used, as in everything Wal-Mart sells, and whether or not it might drive down the quality of the PC parts market as a whole if everyone has to compete with them. On the other hand, there are a ton of shoddy quality parts out there already, so it's probably nothing to worry about.

I would say, Starcraft, as most of the maps that were in Warcraft 3 (tower defenses, Dota, footman frenzy) started as maps in Starcraft. Aeon of Strife for example, tons of turret defense games, and of course Evolves/Hydra Rancher/etc. WC3 definitely refined them into genres of their own, though. But it owes almost all of its custom maps to Starcraft.
As for most influential, I really doubt either of those are it, really. There are so many other genres that it didn't really influence... It would be so hard to say. I mean, what about HL/HL2, and counterstrike, and Team Fortress? What about... yeah, it goes on.
[QUOTE="HaloinventedFPS"]But PSN was shut down because of hackers. You just said so.PSN being shut down was not because of hackers, Sony shut it down themselves to rebuild the infrastructure
there was a custom firmware that allowed people to pirate everything from PSN, DLC/Full games etc, thas why they shut it down
Sony shut it down themselves, not hackers, fact

Obviously, he meant it wasn't shut down because of anon. But that is pretty funny.
TL: DR. PC gaming never was destroyed

The world is going to need hackers, you all just don't realise it yet.
That said it doesn't need the kind of hackers we have nowdoing the things they are doing.
There's no point explaining more, the people that understand what I mean understand and everyone else will just scratch their heads and argue against anything you say in some kneejerk reaction to the word hacker.

I have no problem with it. A company shouldn't be able to tell you what to do with your own property. If they want to ban modded consoles from their online service, that's perfectly fine and I agree with that. But they have no right to tell you that you can't do something just because it might enable you to commit a crime. Lots of things enable people to commit crimes that aren't in and of themselves, illegal. Gun ownership, alcohol, automobiles, etc.
Yeah, let's lock down the internet and prevent people from running anything but corporate/government approved programs on their PCs, while we're at it. That would help prevent piracy! As well as stifle innovation and competition. People would have a problem with that though, wouldn't they? Rightfully so! So why is it that this is okay on consoles and other devices?
Anyway, I realize it leads to piracy and yes that's a problem. But I don't think closing the systems and restricting possibilities is the correct answer. I mean, look where it has gotten Sony, after all. It may be the only one they can choose for now, though.
I would say they should make things as open as possible and provide services like Steam. Steam and other DD services have done wonders at reviving the gaming scene on the PC despite rampant piracy. Including good multiplayer compenents in games that don't work with illegal copies also does wonders. (Ala Starcraft 2.)
At the very least, removing advertised features of a device that people may have bought it for after the fact is just a slap in the face to your customers.
I agree with what he had to say in general, but the fact is you DO own the hardware portion of the PS3 once you buy it, and you are allowed to open it up and mod it, whatever you want. What you're not allowed to do is circumvent the copy protection (according to the DMCA). So he's wrong on that count, I suppose. I didn't really like his attitude though. For all his talk about the law he seemed somewhat ignorant about it.

[QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"] I'm sure you'll be amused next console generation when Sony starts charging for PSN, too. There's nothing funny about people getting screwed over like this. You wouldn't be laughing if it were LIVE I bet. Rage010101
Actually, I would be quite amused. Like I said in one of my previous posts, I've never owned a Playstation so it doesnt bother me one bit. All the Sony fanboys like to laugh about us having to pay for XBL, well its pretty funny to me that PSN is down.
because XBL has never been down...
and this is not a 360 vs ps3 thing...this is hurting gaming in general which is quite sad
How is it hurting gaming in general? I don't own a PS3, and it's not affecting me at all. I don't agree with their tactics and it's **** that it's down, don't get me wrong, but it's not really hurting anybody but Sony and their customers.
Downloadable a week before they are in stores? Do I have to pay for them or are they part of this deal and only work for a week until you have to actually buy it?
Ultrabeatdown55
I think it would make the most sense if people on the 'plan' were able to buy and DL them earlier than others. Imagine a bunch of friends, and one gets the game early, everyone else is going to want it too. I can imagine them sucking people in this way.
