As much as I'd love there to be news of either Golden Sun 3 or that we're FINALLY getting Mother 3 (aka EarthBound 2)... I highly doubt either of those will happen.

I bet it's going to be something completely original and unheard of before. However, if it IS a franchise addition, I'm willing to bet on:

-Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk

-Dragon Quest IX

-Dragon Quest IV DS

-The World Ends With You

I forget who mentioned this before but I'm going to agree with that person: The PSX era was ASTOUNDING for RPGs. *ahem* That said...

My Favs:

NES - Dragon Quest 4

SNES - Chrono Trigger

PSX - There's really too many to list! Though I'll bite the bullet and say a tie between Star Ocean 2/Final Fantasy IX.

PS2 - Dragon Quest 8/Tales of the Abyss

GCN - Tales of Symphonia

DC - Skies of Arcadia

Favorite RPG of All Time: EarthBound

...So It would seem my answer is EarthBound. :P

ive played a few rpgs in my time but something just hit me after i finished final fantasy 10...other rpg's just couldnt stand up to it...even in 2007 its very difficult!! final fantasy 12 was a great game, and infact a better game in many aspects...but the storyline of 12 was nowhere near as good as 10's! final fantasy 10 had such an amazing storyline that was trippy at then end =P had a love story that was really saaaaaaaad =( I donno, atm im playing x-2. i tried playing it straight after finishing x few years ago but i just cudnt pik it up! now im tryin to get into it and its pretty good. Im looking for an RPG that has an epic storyline that combines love stories and other ffx elements into them. Ive tried rogue galaxy but that game is ridiculously hard!! i got 8 hours into it n just cudnt continue cos random enemies were too strong for me!! i started the game again recently and i keep dieing before the first boss because of these 2 rock enemies!! i want an rpg that start easy and gives you opportunities to level up just like ffx. I dont want an easy rpg...ffx's final boss was probably the hardest rpg boss ive played against...but i dont want some stupid hardcore rpg yknow?

any tips?

*blinks* I really don't know of anything to help you out there... IMO, FFX is probably one of the easiest RPGs around...

So you want something similar to difficulty of FFX ... but nothing too insane (*cough*Hoshigami*cough*)

Hmm... Have you ever heard of the Wild ARMs series? For some reason I think Wild ARMs 4 or 5 are up your alley. They both start off easy, feature a unique battle engine and are pretty giving in opportunities to run around leveling up and furthering monster genocide.

I hope that helps a bit.

Xev out.

I've been thinking about getting Tales of abyss. I've bet Tales of symphonia [awesome game!]

Should I get it? Because alot of people are saying its good.

hack-shinobi,

Tales of the Abyss is probably one of the best RPGs out there at this point in time. If you loved Symphonia (which was indeed an awesome game) then you will certainly love Abyss. Abyss brings a lot of improvements to the LMBS (Linear Motion Battle System), most significant of which is the inclusion of Flex Range -- Now you can run all over the battlefield and not be bound entirely by linear movement. It's an awesome feature and excellent to use to get the jump on bosses. If you like the Tales games (or even just Symphonia), you owe it to yourself to rent/buy this game and give it a shot.

Xev out.

FFX is good, but it's too much like a "movie" for my tastes.

I highly suggest Dragon Quest 8 if you like traditional RPGs.

If you happen to like Smash Bros. or old school fighting games, I'd reccommend Tales of the Abyss. It's an action RPG that'll kick you in the pants.

After viewing screenshots and vids, I have to say I'll be picking this gem up at one point or another. I've not ONCE regretting buying my DS. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this thread supposed to be about PS2 RPGs? I'm seeing a lot of PSX suggestions here, too. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you.

As far as PS2 RPGs are concerned, you really can't go wrong with any of the following:

+ Tales of Legendia

+ Tales of the Abyss(***)

+ Star Ocean 3 (aka "Til the End of Time")

+ Dragon Quest 8 (REALLY awesome game guys. Just exquisite in it's entire presentation and execution.)

+ Disgaea 2

+ Grandia 2

These games will keep you busy for hours and deliver enough plot to keep your RPG-craving minds abuzz with entertainment. Good times all around, I assure you.

*** = I had for the longest time considered EarthBound to be my favorite game of ALL time, but after picking up Tales of the Abyss, I'm kinda pained to say that I think good ol' EB has some competition. The characters grabbed me, the battles drew me in and the plot slapped me around like a trout in a barrel hurdling into the Niagara. Seriously. Slow start but VERY GOOD stuff, imo.
