Wendell Wilkie (Feb. 18, 1892 - Oct. 8, 1944) was in the only native of Indiana to be a Repulican Nominee for President of the United States without having been elected to high office of government. He started out as a Democrat and switched parties as a strategic move to bring down FDR's New Deal. He lost the 1940 election to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Democratic Nominee.
