Get the newer one since you don't care to play PS2 games. The DS3 controllers are more durable than the first controllers. You should check into getting skins for your controllers and system and either a Pelican 2 controller charger or a NYKO 4 controller charger, because otherwise your system has to be on to charge your controllers and that isn't good for the system or for your electric bill. You're making the best decision by getting the PS3. You will have scratch resistant discs and a system that doesn't fail on you. Remember that if you're playing a game and it freezes that it's most likely just a dirty disc that needs window cleaner taken to it. A lot of people forget and think it's their PS3 freezing. I have nephews with dirty hands and I have to clean discs about 1-2 times every 2 weeks and they always work fine afterwards. patriots7672

thanks for that too, I will be going for the Pelican 2 charger and hope to get some skins (as long as they don't cause the ps3 any harm when it gets warm(if it does lol).

I did have a look at the 60gb models but 1) they are hard to get hold off and 2) they seem to have the 'YLOD' problem.. I just home this is not the case with the new PS3.....

hi ppl, I have made my mind up and getting a PS3 in two days time (after much thought between the ps3 and 360) - My question...

I have opted for the 80gb model, but as you probably are all aware there are two models - the older one which, has backwards compatibilty/4 usb ports etc and the newer one which has 2 usb ports no backwards compatibilty(I don't play any ps2 games - so i'm not too fussed) it also comes with new Dual shock 3, Which one should I go for? older ps3 80gb or newer model? Price wise they are the same like £299.99 + few games....
