i had the same problem "An Ethernet Cable Is Not Connected" was what i got whenevr i tryed to sign into my acc. For 1hour reading comments and following instructions, i just got my cable out and wiped the gold disk lines and inserted it.. then i could sign in. Maybe try this out, happy i got it running, i was about to throw my ps3 on the wall lol.
