This doesn't matter. nearly all Ubisoft games after a month are discounted to $30 bucks

@Iemander: you need to elaborate. Yes you can keep an encryption key in there but I don't understand the point. Having an encryption key on a public blockchain is a huge gaping vulnerability. like giving everyone a copy of a key to your house. Other people can just read your key and validate anything on their terms since they have a copy of your key.

But let's assume otherwise, this doesn't address the cost and scalability. You can easily do the same thing on anything web 2.0 much faster at a tiny fraction of the cost.

Also you wouldn't be even able to even do it. There is a gas limit to smart contracts. You could only do so much validation before you run out of gas. Then this will be the most expensive and limited certificate authority ever.

If you were to remove the gas limit. it would just create a exploit where people would can use processes to take over the entire network so the gas limit is a good thing.

There are issues with blockchains like anything else. But to think this is going to change everything is not even rational.

@robbie23:I'm a software engineer. The claim is that on the etherium blockchain you can create unique identifiable objects that cannot be reproduced. this is True, then in these blocks put whatever, picture, an item from a game, or whatever. who buys the block therefore owns what is inside of them.

The problem is it doesn't work at all. If you look at any NFT all that is inside that container is just a link to somewhere. All the $200,000 dollar NFT pictures of apes or lions are not actually that picture at all, but a link that you hope points to that picture. So in reality someone could just take down the webhost hosting that picture, or change the picture to something else.

The reason they are only links is because it is super expensive to really add anything to it. Say you put 1 Megabyte file into the system. The systems will have to figure out who gets to validate it aka “Mining” then once it is validated it has to goto every other system in the nextwork to do the same validation then every system needs a copy of it. In 2018 the estimated price of 1 Megabyte is $1867.78 (3) What’s the current cost to store 1mb of data on Ethereum? : ethereum (reddit.com)

So in order to save money people will put links instead of pictures

In reality it is a database. An extremely expensive, high maintenance, poor performance and horrible scalable database. The only thing going for it is high reliability assuming the price of Ethereum is good and people can continue incentivized to make money from it.

Although everyone says this is version 1, and with innovation it will be better. In reality by design it is bad. You want to go as fast as possible and Blockchain is a car, and other databases are rocketships. All the innovation in the world will never make the car hit the speeds of the rocketship.

@naomha1: I never thought of this it's an interesting take. But now games are mostly digital you can't really trade and resell them. I think what they will most likely do is make skins NFT's and possibly on epic skins have a limited amount of them. This will drive up the demand, and if people sell or trade those skins the original owner gets a cut.

Think if this is were to be applied to CS Go with their crazy gambling sites. There tons of money to be made trading back and forth which I think can drive explotation to the max.
