First off, let me say something that I know you've all been thinking but have been too afraid to admit: Wolverine Origins was LOUSY. Awful. Terrible. Abyssmal. The whole thing was campy as hell, but not in an amusing way.
Among the many irritations to actual fans was the casting/characterization of both Deadpool and Gambit. Both characters never even came close to hitting their mark. In the case of Gambit, a large part can be blamed on his role in the movie although Deadpool is a completely different story. Ryan Reynolds, who "played" Deadpool, is a completely unlikeable actor who does nothing but star in bad movies or bring otherwise good ones down. For those of you not familiar with the actor's work (if you can call what he does work---though he certainly gets paid well for it!), he played the eponymous Van Wilder in National Lampoon's Van Wilder (terribly, I might add), Mike Connell in Adventureland (a horrid movie where he must have felt at home with the lousy cast), Agent Messner in the messy Smokin' Aces (they were certainly smokin' something when they made that movie), and he played the lead in Definitely, Maybe (which I never saw and can't comment on). Oh, plus did I mention he ALREADY PLAYED a Marvel character prior to Deadpool with lackluster results? In Blade: Trinity, Reynolds stole the role of Hannibal King from some actor (any actor) who might've done the character a little justice. However, this shoddy performance was rewarded with a promotion to Deadpool, one of the biggest comic fan-favorites of all time, AND, wait, that's not even the kicker, supposedly now he's also going to be playing Green Lantern in the upcoming movie. So not only is Reynolds usurping one major role but he's not even loyal to the Marvel brand.
I'm not sure why the studios don't just drop the "pool" off Deadpool if the new film hits theaters because it's going to be a trainwreck. The few lines that Reynolds delivered in Origins as Deadpool fell flat, which is disappointing given that humor is Deadpool's greatest asset. I blame the whole situation on the assumption that because Reynolds has starred in movies intended to be funny that directors, producers, etc, have come to the conclusion that Reynolds is a funny guy. However, not only is not funny, but he's also not much of an actor. He's the kind of guy you'd expect to see in made4tv films on the Hallmark channel, maybe.
You know, Ryan Reynold's only real accomplishment, the only thing he should be proud of, is bagging Scarlett Johansson---an actress who actually has talent and isn't just a pretty face like pretty boy Reynolds.
