There are plenty of films such as Mulholland Drive where the plot is as much inferred as it is in SotC so I don't see the game's plot as a problem, in fact that inferrance probably works better in game or book form than a film.
As for Goichi Suda creating a 2 hour game, I would like to see more short form games but story and characters aside, imagine 2 hours of God Hand or SotD the backdrops and traversing were uninteresting only punctuated by instadeath sections and anachronistic boss fights.
