Iwata: Nintendo can't rival Live, PSN

Company doesn't have the infrastructure for it

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has admitted that Nintendo does not have the infrastructure to create an online network to rival Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.

With Microsoft and Sony having both announced expanded online services for their respective consoles at E3 (including new movie download features), SpiegelOnline asked Iwata whether he felt Nintendo was lagging behind its rivals in this sector.

Iwata half admitted that this was the case, saying that things such as movie downloads weren't Nintendo's business, and that the company lacked the infrastructure to create a network on the same scale as Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.

"No, we don't plan to sell films or similar things online, that's not our business," he said.

"We are a videogame company, we don't have the infrastructure to set up a giant online service. It would also be too expensive.

Nintendo finally admitting they suck at online gaming and can't compete with the competition.

It's no secret that the game is coming, it's listed on a few sites as being released March 2009. And it's usually the retailers who are the first to know.

Two of my all time favourite games on SNES and N64, you just know it's going to be great on Wii with that controller. I guess it wasn't ready to show at E3, but I bet it's well into development, is out early 2009, and uses the motion plus add on. :) it's games like this that I bought a Wii for, (and F-Zero) bring it on Nintendo. Pilotwings on Wii isn't really a secret anymore.

RE4 Wii edition , it was my favourite game last gen, and now it's my favourite Wii game too.

Paper Mario for VC, never got to play it on N64 so it feels fresh, and I'm really enjoying it.

On Wiiware, only have my life as a King...have not played it yet. So many games to get through.

Yes they are arrogant, but they shouldn't be. They are missing out on many great console games. I would rather play games like Ninja Gaiden 2, Mario Galaxy, Brawl, Halo 3, Banjoe ect, than RTS numer 1000. I installed Diablo 2 again the other day, and I'm bored of it again already, and that is to me the best PC game ever made.

The way they look down upon console gamers is pathetic. 90% of console gamers could buy a gaming PC if they wanted to. They chose not to because they are having a blast on their chosen platform.
