''Valkyria chronicles..? what is valkyria chronicles..?'' Some of you fellow gamers might ask.. valkyria chronicles is a strategy war themed RPG which first came out on the ps3 back in 2008.. but this is not what I wanted to talk about, if you wish to know about valkyria chronicles go to its page on gamespot or search wikipedia..

The subject of this post is the downfall of vc.. yes downfall. If you know this game.. you'd probably also know that right after vc1 the continuation of the series became an exclusive to psp and there the sales went down like an anchor to the bottom of the sea.. some fans still do not want to accept this but it is the harsh truth.. but just look at the sales graphs for vc1 and vc2..

Here you may notice the crater where vc2 has crashed into.. with sales more than halved..!

So the question is.. who is to blame..? the psp..? the developers..? Probably both..

Let's begin by looking at vc1.. an amazing game still today.. it's innovative canvas engine drawn-like graphics are pure art.. then we have exciting cut scenes and captivating storyline.. what would you want more..?

Now let's look at vc2 though.. since the psp was unable to provide the same level of graphics as the ps3 they were reduced to a jaggedy edged pale shadow of what the canvas engine once was.. the exciting cutscenes were all replaced by anime-style animations.. and the story became an high school fiction with lots of fanservice..

How could such a great game fall so down..? Well.. in my opinion.. the developers just ran out of money or became lazy bums.. there would be no other excuse for transferring a series to an inferior console.. half-ass its graphics and give it a cheap storyline which its sole point of interest is fanservice..
Hell.. there is also a vc3 but guess what..? it came out only in japan (still on psp!) with no signs of it being localized in other countries.. this tells us everything else..

It was you, sega, who killed valkyria chronicles..! If you wish to take back valkyria chronicles to its former splendor.. take it back on ps3.. give it the "old" graphics and cutscenes it used to have and for godsake.. a good story..
