I think I figured out what the problem is. Someone on another forum told me about a so called "double boot issue". Apparently the Intel p45 and p35 chipsets behave this way on some motherboards. Other motherboard manufacturers have fixed the problem with BIOS updates but foxconn hasnt yet. I guess it was something that was done on purpose to warm up the integrated circuits and prevent cold boot issues.

That is what I am hoping is the problem anyways. If you ahve any other ideas let me know.

It only goes up to 60 at that resolution. The screen actually flickers on and off, not just the low refresh rate flicker.

Thanks for the tip. I reset the CMOS before I even started building the computer so that shouldnt be the problem.

My monitor supports and recommends 1600x1200 resolution but when I try to change it to that it just flickers on and off. Could it be a video card issue?

I just got done building my new computer but I am having a really odd power up issue. My computer will start and turn off after 1 second. Then start automatically again and shut down after a few more seconds. Eventually it will start running and keep running and there are no issues. Got any idea what this could be?

I have tried it with pretty much nothing but the power connector on the board just to see if I can get some kind of beep code but I dont get anything. I have cleared the CMOS many times but still nothing. I will try the other stick of RAM when I get off work but I dont really have to high of hopes for that making it work. The fact that there is no beep codes makes me think it must be either the CPU or motherboard. But if it were the CPU then the motherboard should give me a no cpu beep code if I take it out right?

If I looked a little harder I could probably figure this out but thats what forums are for right? Just kidding.

Anyways, will Nehalem use the 775 socket or are they releasing a new socket?

UPDATE:

I tried out a new power supply and a new video card but still got nothing. I managed to get it to do one long continuous beep when I turned it on without the 6 pin connector on the Video card but havent been able to get it to do that again. I guess that means I narrowed it down to either RAM, CPU or Motherboard. I grabbed a stick of 184-pin ram from my work today so I will see how that goes but I dont think it will work unless both of my RAM sticks went bad at the same time.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
