I keep reading about how Wii is killing the xbox and PS3 in sales and its kinda funny, do you guys really think they're in the same market? Wii is targeting kids and casual gamers who may not have even played games in the last 10 years, the people who like FPS games, RPGS, fighting games, etc, basically any game thats targeted towards a mature audience have no interest in a wii.
Obviously casual gamers make up more of the population than the hardcore and this is fine, but if you think the Wiis sales have any impact on the PS3 or Xbox you're wrong, its the XBOX and ps3 that are competing against each other because they target the same type of gamer. The wii will be successful from a business standpoint but to all you people who think you're gonna see halo, MGS, socom, GTA4, etc type games on the Wii I think you're very mistaken, nintendo caters to children and the casual gamer and these games just aren't casual or kiddy.
exclusives define a console, and play a large part in how successful that console is.fuzzysquash

I realize that which is why I said we as gamers don't care about that, I mean you don't want your console to fail and have no games made for it but when you have morons petitioning to have DMC4 brought back exclusively for ps3 its a little weird. Id be almost embarassed to tell a normal person thats not a gamer that I would sign something like that.

John Carmack > IGN.com, I'll trust John Carmack over IGN.com and John Carmack said PS3 is more powerful system but only by a small margin.
second, RSX is actually more powerful GPU than Xbox 360. The difference comes from VRAM.
PS3 has 24 pipeline while Xbox 360 has 48 pipeline, which is due to Xbox 360s unique structure of sharing 1 512 MB RAM with CPU and GPU, while PS3 uses 1 256 MB RAM strictly on GPU and 1 256 MB RAM on CPU.
Does that mean Xbox 360 is more powerful? The answer is no because of power of RSX, PS3 pipeline can do almost 3 times amount of task Xbox 360 can.
so think of it as that Xbox 360 GPU can do 48 tasks at once on 1/3 of speed of PS3 and PS3 GPU can do 24 tasks at once but 3Â times the speed of XBox 360.
As for the question why PS 3 looks not as good as Xbox 360, the answer is simple.
First PS3 has complicated hardware architechture especially when it comes to Cell processor, making it difficult for game developers to take good advantage of the system
but Xbox 360 has very developer friendly hardware architechture starting with their Xenon, making it easier for game developers to take good advantage of the system. Also it's been out for longer so developers are more used to the system.
Well that's how I understood it after a little bit of research.
So what does this mean?
Anything PS3 can do Xbox 360 can do, and anything Xbox 360 can do PS3 can do, just in different ways.

Actually ps3 and xbox's gpu operates at 500mhz, ps3 has 32 total pipelines and xbox has 48 unified pipes, ignoring the fact that the 360 is much more efficient that is 1.5 times more graphic power right there and yes the ps3 has 256 VRAM, the xbox can use much more than 256 for video memory if it needs it. Do more research and actually comprehend it this time.
The fundamental flaw of course in this logic is that if it did use more ram on graphics it would take away ram for CPU intensive tasks...So you're saying the 360 devs can CHOOSE what they use the RAM for instead of capped at 256 for system or video? Yeah Id say that was pretty smart of MS too.

[QUOTE="aarons914"]Branching is where the power is at, and even though the 360 GPU is "better" the PS3's GPU doesnt have to be since the cell does most of the work. Are people really this much in denial? How many times have people posted about the xboxs GPU being more powerful, its a fact, and even if you say that both have 512 megs of RAM which is questionable since PS3s is harder to use all 512 then the 360 still comes out ahead. And I don't want to hear about the processor, it impacts fps and has practically nothing to do with graphics, if sony didn't have their heads up their asses they would have never put that much time into the processor anyway.
So there you have it, argue about upcoming games all you want but as far as potential, xbox360 has more as far as games are concerned, sure ps3 is more powerful overall when you consider bluray and all the other BS you're buying but I play games on my console and thats about it.

"branching" huh? You have no clue what you're talking about, anyone who knows anything about computers knows the GPU is doing most of the work, the cell is not a GPU its a processor, it deals with AI, and feeds the GPU its info to do the graphics work, I guess you'll start to realize that when the 360 gets better and better and PS3 won't be producing games better than anything on PC last year.
