@mogan: As a Canadian, American political “discourse” in comments sections of any site or app is the definition of facepalm. As an outsider looking in, it certainly seems to many of us that any kind of reasonable discussion with someone of the American rightwing persuasion has a 50/50 chance of ending in conspiracy talk, violent threats or hate speech. Can’t imagine living in a first world country where 25% of the population wants to go to war with 50% of their brothers and sisters while the remaining 25% will probably go along with it. Scary and sad to see our neighbours above being so divided and volatile with each other.
I’m a fairly bipartisan person and I have nothing against people sounding off in the comments, regardless of opinion (surprised Gamespot left the comments section open), but after checking the comments on articles of all kinds, no matter how innocuous or what topic, I am surprised by how overwhelmingly and aggressively rightwing this site’s visitors are. Not even just going by their opinions, they actively self-proclaim. I wonder if the Western gaming culture is largely conservative or if it’s just this site. Just find it crazy interesting.
I don't even mind that we might not see a ton of the game this year. It will definitely come out in 2022. I'm not a huge FF fan outside of FFX, but this looks like a real labor of love, and I'm grateful they learned their lesson from KH3 and FF7 Remake by keeping the marketing close to their chest until it's near release.
Phil is a talented journalist and marrying politics and gaming isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but even as an admitted progressive, I can’t help but feel trolled and roll my eyes at the blatant attempt at hatebaiting here. This hobby and community is filled with a ton of antisocial, narcissistic, toxic people, especially in these comments, so why pander to them? I understand that the site has to survive and clicks are clicks, but at what cost?
