@Synapticus: Yep, keeping a close eye on that one and my fingers crossed. Can't wait till it comes out.

The AI in strategy games always cheats: it's a cheaper, easier and admittedly worse way to ensure the player has some sort of difficulty when playing against the AI (instead of, y'know, just making it better, which is much harder to do).

Not sure about that. Massive Assault by Wargaming (absolutely fantastic game btw; like chess 2.0) had an A.I that palyed fair and square and it was pretty brutal even on the lowest difficulty settings. Even experienced players found it difficult.

Silent Hill. Absolutely fantastic movie, if a bit limited in scope due t the source material.

Dead or Alive was...stimulating and entertaining.

Mortal Kombat was ok, but only because it didn't pretend to be something it isn't. It knew it was corny B-rate flick and it reveled it in that knowledge.

1. EA (for being evil)

2. Microsoft (for holding back gaming these past 8 years)

3. Sony (same as above)

4.Activision (for being a lesser version of EA)

5. Bethesda (for ruining Fallout and gradually destroying the Elder scrolls series with dumbed down sequels)

6. Capcom (for being greedy)

7. Sega (for ruining Total War and being all-round jerks)

@Jacanuk

This

"EA has a bad tendency to ruin games with their tight deadlines and budgets"

happens because of this

"want to make money"

There is a difference between making money to make games or making games to make money. The first approach usually produces good games but slightly lower profits (companies like Paradox or pre-WoW Blizzard operate(d) like that), the second approach maximizes income by catering to the lowest common denominator -12 year old console kiddies- at the cost of quality (companies like bethesda, activision and EA operate according to that principle)

You must be new to TBS games and strategy. A.I cheats in almost ALL strategy games. It is the only way it can provide a challenge.

Endless Space is actually a pretty easy game

If you bought a dedicated video-card, Geforce 9800 is extremely cheap nowadays, you could play most games up to 2012 and some 2013 games. As it stands my guess is most 2009 and maybe 2010 games, but I'm not sure.

If I were you I would try some game demos and see how they run.

Pwn became uncool the moment History and Nat Geo started showing Pawn shop shows. Pwn and Pawn are just too similar and you risk being confused for one of those people.

I find that Tom is the the most level-headed of all GS's reviewers solely because he seems to be unaffected by hype.

So unaffected by hype means your taste in games is complete shit.

No. It means seeing a game for what it is rather than what the commercials and a tiny but vocal bunch of petulant teens, who haven't played System Shock and didn't understand anything from the original Bioshock, want you to see.

However I do love how you automatically label the subjective opinion of someone you've never met and know nothing about as shit just because it does not coincide with (and therefore validate) your own subjective opinion. That's a sign of insecurity if you ask me. That being said I invite you to check my (or Tom's) owned games stacks and ratings before discussing taste in games.

Football Manager is very in-depth, but in a good way. Each statistic is tied to 2 or 3 (like a player who is good at finishing also needs good composure and positioning to score) others and it has lot of variables, all of which can affect the course of the match, for instance depending on his mental attributes encouraging a player can cause him to gain confidence and score the winning goal or become complacent and fail to intercept the pass that led to opposition's winning goal.

I've worked with excel spreadsheets that were less in-depth than FM.

RC Cola is the best. Tastes a lot better, is cheaper, and it doesn't have so many harmful chemicals
