Honestly most of these systems are interchangeably similar with just slight nuances of difference. I'm a sucker for tactical RPGs (FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre), besides that, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Shadow Hearts' wheel which I kinda enjoyed.
really depends on your tastes, but imo you can't go wrong with either series. i own both and found them to be worth it. try and buy the Metal Gear Solid - The Essential Collection. It has the first three games of the MGS series for only 30 bucks
