I still love Lost even if I don't understand the declining ratings, but this morning I had an epiphany about where the series may be going plotwise. Remember how the Russian Mikhail said that the Hostiles/Others overthrew the Dharma Initiative and took over the island and what Desmond said about time always correcting itself. Maybe the Losties crashed on the island because each of them are somehow directly or indirectly connected to Dharma and they are supposed to lead the overthrow against the Others and retake the island that failed years before. It kind of makes sense.
