BIOSHOCK!

I do not see what the fuss is over that game. The story wasn't THAT original and the "twist" was almost obvious. A mysterious, seemingly friendly character who contacts you mysteriously at the beginning of the game is not who he says he is? No way! It was also way too easy; if you were near a regen chamber, you could take out a Big Daddy with a wrench while respawning endlessly.

In all fairness, the "would ya kindly" twist was pretty cool though.

Couldn't agree more. The game play was weak, the weapons were unsatisfactory and the RPG elements lacked depth. I was hoping for a modern Deus Ex, what I got was just another boring FPS with an experience system slapped down on it. The moral choices were ridiculous, you're either a perfect saint or a vicious child murderer. I mean, have you seen the two endings? They're so extreme you couldn't make better good/evil caricatures. Talk about no middle ground. The characters were mostly boring and none are likable, the protagonist especially (I can't stand silent protagonists, you don't see silent protagonists in movies or books, why do people keep thinking it makes sense in games?) and the story did not draw me in. The entire story is related to you via radio and audio diary entries. You almost never see anyones faces, which makes it difficult for me to fell connected to the characters. The villain is predictable, and the message is not as deep as everyone says it is. Ayn Rand was crazy? No kidding. Not that I have anything wrong with such a theme, but as I said before, I thought the execution was poor. Anyone can take a social evil or philosophy they don't like and turn it into a dystopia. The real challenge is to do it in a way that's compelling and entertaining. To me, Bioshock failed in this. About the only thing the game had going for it was the artwork, and as cool as Rapture and the Big Daddies looked it's not worth shelling out $60 for that.
