even in the darkest days of the 2 year stretch of suckfest that was the ps3 launch nobody in their right mind thought sony would be the next atari or sega.

Basically. It was just media and small gaming sites speculating it's death - either for hits or because they're morons.
I doubt gaming would be 'dead' exactly. But i think it'd leave a big void considering Sony provided a rivalry for Microsoft and Nintendo which keeps the benchmark high in gaming. If sony left, suddenly Nintendo and Microsoft are left with a less competetive market because one of their biggest rivals would have suddenly gone. That's what i think anyway, and i don't think anybody would risk just 'jumping' into the industry considering it's quite a big 'jump' to decide to join the video game market.

I take back what I said about stop playing. It would just be Nintendo vs Xbox, without Playstation gaming would never be quite the same. IMO Playstation will always be better then Xbox, and I have no plans of getting one. I would not feel quite the same again. I would still play, But I would not feel that gaming would ever be quite the same again... (If Sony does not make Playstation systems anymore)
