Hello true believers !
I know, the blogging has been slow lately. But on the bright side, if you're a movie buff, like me, theres a lot of choices out right now, though nothing Oscar-worthy unfortunately. I did actually get out to see a couple though, so I figured I'd post a mini review fo each one, hopefully with little to no spoilers.
Oceans 13
Oh dear, where to start. Its nice to see the old gang back in action, as it were (Clooney, Pitt, Cheadle, Mac and Damon, with Ellen Barkin and Al Pacino this time around). With a cast this big, it just wasnt as cool as it could have been. Dont get me wrong, there are some pretty funny moments, its just not nearly as good as Ocean's 11, or 12. (I think).
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
First off, if you're planning to see this, please go somewhere with comfy seats, cause it is a 3 hr movie, and you will be sore if you pick a theater with hard, stiff seats (like me). Johnny Depp once again makes the movie, as the best scenes are the ones with him in it. Sadly the movie starts off painfully slow, with Depp's Jack Sparrow not making an appearance for what seems like a good 45 minutes in. The number of characters and subplots that are swirling around really do start to get confusing, especially if you've been following the series. If you dont remember the previous two films, you might want to give them a look before checking out part 3, cause well....um..you'll still be confused...?? But you definitely wont be bored, once it gets going, the action kicks into high gear and doesnt let up, some great swashbuckling scenes, (Oh yes, buckles will be swashed...), particularly near the end.
Now I havent bought DVDs in awhile, but if you're into classics (or just think Peter O Toole is hot), then you have to check out "Becket". Its new on DVD and starts O'Toole as King Henry II (which isnt a huge departure from his Henry VIII, from "The Lion in Winter"), and also starts Richard Burton as Thomas Becket, friend of the king who is made his advisor and then made the Archbishop of Canterbury, where their friendship starts to go south pretty quick. It really is top acting by two of the top actors of the time, and puts a lot of top actors today to shame. Its definitely a must see.
