Nope in that case you are right, pal.Sorry for misreading your opinion a bit, pal.

Serioussamik

It happens :)

The 5970 is a single card solution(use of one lane although is two boards together). Sli 460, belongs in the multicard list therefore they wont be listed together.

5970 > 460, by about 10% or more, but it costs way more than its worth.

Bikouchu35

Problem is that the 460 isn't listed there at all.

[QUOTE="amer_tb"]

please add gtx460 SLI to the list. From what I heard it's cheaper and better than a single 5970.

Serioussamik

Gtx 460 better than 5970?????

With due respect,you are wrong!

I meant 2x gtx 460 in SLI is better than a single 5970. Correct me if I'm wrong my friend.

Coincidently, I'm building a computer for my first time in Australia with a budget of ~$2000. I've been researching for a while but the exact parts I plan to get are listed on a different computer so I can't tell you my exact config. From the top of my memory, this is what it came down to:

- i7 950

- p6x58d mobo

- 6gb ddr3

- gtx 480 or 5970 or gtx 460 SLI (haven't made a final decision, opinions?)

- coolermaster rc 690 v2

- samsung 24" LED backlit

- 22x DVDrw

- antec 650w psu

with the gtx480 it came down to $2008 but from pccasegear.com rather than centrecom

Just for comparison, here's what the AMD build would look like. With AMD being cheaper, I've managed to change the 5870 to a 5970 keeping the totally price roughly the same.

IntelTotal Price ~ $1853.30 (5870)

AMDTotal Price $1894.40 (5970)

Still not sure about the change to AMD. I've never really used an AMD machine before. It would be nice to hear more of your opinions.

I'm in Aus, and I would recommend msy.com.au - much cheaper for picking out parts and could save you money if you're building it yourself. That aside, that's a very good build. I would, however, change the PSU to a corsair, coolermaster or seasonic 650W minimum. PSU's that come with cases are usually rubbishkrisroe_213

I might actually go with msy. But ultimately I'll decide in September when I actually build this. I will go with your recommendation of PSU.

Heres a much price vs performance ratio, Go with AMD

My build comes out $300 cheaper using that processor and motherboard but I'm still unsure about going with AMD. I'm reading about AMD now.

I'm an AMD man so i can' answer your other questions, lol.. An AMD system would save you alot of money if you're just going to use your pc for gaming. krisroe_213
There must be some sort of disadvantage to compensate for AMD being cheaper?
Wow, that i7 is seriously overpriced. $825 AUD is equal to roughly $718 USD which is hundreds of dollars more than it should be (mine cost $200 USD). Also, the P6T Deluxe is an older board, get a P6X58D-E as it has more features and should be cheaper (unless that website tries to rip you off like its doing with the CPU).gameguy6700
For some reason, the price above is wrong. The i7 930 is actually $359 at centrecom. Also I'm changing to the motherboard you recommend. Guys is there any disadvantage with the RAM I chose? For some reason It's cheaper than the other 6gb kits.

This is going to be my first build ever. Should I worry about accidentally destroying it and so pay for someone to build it for me?

Budget: $2000 Australian

Website: http://www.centrecom.com.au/

So far: (Image updated)

Total Price $1853.30 (A bit more because if you add in the 650w psu)

If possible, ignore this build and suggest a better configuration :D

Questions:

1) The prices of 6gb RAM greatly vary on that website with mine being one of the cheapest. Are there any limitations with the RAM I've chosen?

2) Is the P6T an appropriate motherboard?

3) It seems centrecom will only sell that case with a 500W psu. Is that enough power?

Due to me being a noob, I will not be installing any after market cooling or anything. I don't intend to overclock anything. I'm planning to get everything around September

Ok I can use the first one to run the fan, theres no problem! The second one is too big for the cable that had the adaptor. Or any of the cables for that matter.. Ive got a dell 5150 and I think my psu is 305W. Is that enough to run a 7950gt? I doubt it very much. But thanks to the lack of cables, I think i would need a new one anyway. Just a question though, Is it neccessary to supply the card(not the fan) with power from the psu? I just bought a DVI to VGA adapter today, and im really tempted to try and run the card! But thanks again for your help. I appreciate it very much

I just opened up my box, and looking at the power supply, i find no extra cables. Is it neccessary to power the card directly from the power supply? Would it overheat if I just dont plug in the fan? I did However find that the power supply to the cd rom has another end to it, ill post a picture to show you what i mean.

And I could also see somthing else from my power supply, I think i might need an extension of some sort and use it for my graphic card?

My card needs 2 power cords to power it and one power cord for the then fan. Are they neccessary?
