Although i have heard this rumour before, i do not believe this will happen in the near future. The development costs just wouldn't be worth it, unless there was heavy demand for BC on the 40GB consoles. However if the higher end models were to be slowly phased out, im sure BC would become 100% software emulated. The problem with emulation is that the architecture between the RSX gpu in the PS3 and the Graphics Synthesizer in the PS2 is completely different. But who knows, if they pull this off it will really show everyone the power of the cell as a CPU and a GPU for a completely different architecture being emulated.
This goes out to everyone, do extensive research before making a purchase, especially if the product you are buying is worth alot of money. To stay safe try to get information directly from Sony rather than listening to rumours floating around on forums throughout the Internet.
Yeay don't sell it, this year has an awsome lineup of games and with the PS3 slowly gaining momentum. Give 2008 a shotand if it really isn't your thing then go ahead no one's stopping your own choice.
I have a Japanese import white PS3. It is 100% compatible with american games and Blu-ray/DVD Discs. I didn't exactly import it, but white is sold all over asia and i picked one up here in Thailand.
Trust me on this one. Don't buy it, the PS3 version has some issues and i say there are better games you could use the money on. Say Unreal 3, Call Of Duty 4 or Rachet and Clank for example.
