@angelsemaj: Yeah, old-school CS. Like 2003 to 2006-ish I think. It died down due to costs if I'm not mistaken, and viewership wasn't that great by that time. They even had plans to make some MMOs competetive like Ragnarok or Everquest. But since it's mainly an Asian thing, they stuck with RTSes and FPSes for the most part.

That's interesting. I wish they could focus on other game genres as well for this years' WCG.

Too much MOBA dominating the eSports scene. Thanks for the history lesson, that was very insightful! Its nice to learn new stuff. :)

@angelsemaj: I'm pretty sure they have a shooter game though. If I'm not mistaken its Crossfire. I have the game on my phone, but I haven't played it yet.

No battle royale eSports? Sad. I wish they had one too. :(

I heard Moon, the Warcraft III legend, is making a comeback in WCG as well. Is Grubby also coming to WCG? If yes, then a Grubby vs Moon dream match is set to happen again! :D

Moon vs. Grubby is something to watch out for. Must watch especially if they match up on the remastered Warcraft 3.

WCG? Wow, talk about old. I remember watching and actually trying to participate for their Counter Strike stuff back then. Good times, good times.

BTW, it's basically like the olympics of video games, if that makes sense.

Wait, when you say Counter Strike, you're actually referring to old school counter strike and not CS:GO right? Jesus that IS old.

Most of the games being featured right now are MOBA-themed games. I wish there was more shooters tho but that's just me.

So I was browsing Youtube for 'research videos' and came upon this:

Loading Video...

The ad is awesome and all, but I honestly had no idea who or what WCG is. Apparently its an eSports league that went to sleep 6 years ago and is finally back. Any of you vets know about WCG?

Side note: Warcraft 3 eSports? Are they referring to the remastered one?

@rmpumper: The "Huh?" moment in ME3 is actually something I found good. Yeah I know it didn't satisfy majority of the fanbase, but the open-endedness of it was actually pretty cool for me. :)

Wow. I guess I picked the right topic to start. Lots of differing opinions, all of them valid in their own perspectives. I guess I never thought of eSports and Sports as something as seriously as most of the players and competitors in it do.

For me at least, eSports and Sports is a form of entertainment. Of course its business, meant to make money for those who already have a lot of them.

But hey, I grew up in a society where a gamer = a person with no future. Now almost everyone and their grandma wants to be a gamer. (especially here in the Philippines where people in show business is trying to get into the gaming industry -and failing miserably

I am almost finished with my recent ME:1-3 run (I just finished Priority: Horizon) in preparation for me Playing ME: Andromeda for the first time (I was discouraged by my friends to play it during its initial release).

Should I prep myself to be disappointed? :(

well, it's like ME you knew, here and there, but commander Shepherd (and pretty much everything good that came from here) is DEAD , with capital D. Got my drift ?

That is just... so... sad. :(

Hi guys, I'm new here and this is my first topic ever. And since I'm a bit of a fan of how gamers are now recognized globally through eSports and competitive gaming, this is a topic that I have thought of.

So.... what do you think about the current eSports competitions? Do you feel they are beneficial for the gaming industry overall? Or is it only promoting a small niche of the gaming industry? :)

Definitely MK11. But I'll wait for opinion from other players and reviews before actually buying it. :)
