This is what happens when you try to pander to a "Modern Audience" when in reality, it doesn't exist.

Did anyone manage to buy it off of GOG.com?
@uninspiredcup: Isn't that the monetization director at Ubisoft?
Dragon Quest has always been censored in the West:
- Back in the '80s and '90s, Dragon Warrior censored Christian references to avoid offending Western conservatives.
- Now in the 2020s, Dragon Quest is censoring female skin and binary genders to avoid offending Western liberals.
But a big difference this time is that Dragon Quest is now being censored in Japan. Back in the days, the censorship typically only applied to Western localizations. Nowadays, the censorship is applied to even the Japanese version. So DQ is now facing backlash from the core Japanese fanbase.
I think I'm starting to reconsider maybe bringing back region locking is for the best.
@mycatismilk: sure, but can we agree that gamers as of late have seemed impossible to please? I've never seen so much complaining in my life with any form of entertainment. It's ok to have valid critiques on things but feels like it has gone far beyond that. If nothing pleases you, then yeah, shouldn't you go make what you enjoy?
And have you ever wondered why this is and made yourself familiar with the subject? Doesn't look like it.
Some years ago a trend was starting, companies would focus biggly on DEI. Diversity Equity Inclusion. The reason you ask? Money of course and nothing but money!
Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts rank among the top priorities for organizations, both academic and industrial. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it also drives increased performance. According to a recent McKinsey study, companies in the first quartile of gender and ethnic diversity on executive teams were respectively 25% and 36% more likely to enjoy above-average profitability [1].

25-36%, that's huuuge... prbly. Very enticing to videogame companies like EA, Sony etc.... understandbly. Although it doesn't seem to work. Not at all. Sonys Spidermon2 only sold half as many units as the fisrt one. Now some dofus might object "but not because of woke". Yawell, there is still this massive discrepancy, that grew rapidly recently... like 400m+studio rapidly.
ESG investing is a strategy where people put their money to work in companies that have a positive net impact on the environment and society, led by a management team that achieves these goals via better corporate governance. The acronym ESG stands for environmental, social and governance, for the three core pillars of this investing philosophy:
- Social. How does the company improve its social impact? Does it offer fair levels of compensation for employees? What are its policies regarding LGBTQ+ equality, racial diversity and inclusive hiring practices? How does a company advocate for social good in the wider world, beyond its limited sphere of business?

Essentially, the more woke the more investments and profits. Unfortuntely, it meant inviting in a certain type of people, inviting them in large numbers. The types that have college degrees in social studies & stuff.
People like Sweet Baby Inc., working very closely with companies like Sony.
"Burn the games industry to the ground"
"ethically and financially"
Yap, and these kind of people, political radical activists, were recruited in large numbers. Is it really surprising that normal people don't want to put up with this shit? I belong to a minority companies try to pander hard these days and i don't like it, because i see how hypocritical and shallow it is - in UBI AC shadows case it is outright racist -, how it adds nothing creatively or to the entertainment value. It's the crass opposite.
@TheEroica:
Didn't you forget something? I'm sure you just forgot to mention the radical activist behind the female protagonist...

Of the same ilk...
That SBI person did say it clearly.
@nnoyinghusband: Agreed.
@SOedipus: I was never asked that, but I would refuse to do so too.
@hrt_rulz01: Yeah, but... I still get a facepalm as to why they didn't show off the Wii U console more in 2011 and 2012 when all the focus was on the Wii U GamePad.
Maybe Nintendo was wise to not hold a conference back in 2013.
After hearing the announcement that E3 is officially gone, I look back and wonder if Nintendo actually made wise decision to not hold a press conference way back in 2013 and onward.
