Its a great game alright - i played it for a few weeks in and out and loved the combat aspect! Not to go into too much detail, but there's a certain satisfaction of firing an arrow, and seeing it land on an enemy, and stay there. Particularly with a head shot.
But there was something seriously hampering this game's full potential, and i think its this: the combat takes place in an arena, and not open country. What i mean here is that when combat is engaged, you are placed in an enclosed, boxed-in, squarepatch of grass and hills (that is fairly big, i admit) but it is an arena nonetheless. There is never a feeling of being part of a large open world (which oblivion does), and this really cramps any kind of atmosphere. If it were possible to change this aspect, which is to say to try (as near as possible) to combine the travelling map (which is very similar to the empire building aspect of Total War series, and is how your character moves around the world in Mount & Blade) and the combat element - it would be a massive improvement!
Aside from that its a great game that's made incredible by its low-budget background!
