Is Hellgate multiplayer only or is there a single player component as well? How does the game compare single to multiplayer. I have satillete internet (its all that's avaliable in my area) and MMORPG's are basically out of the question.

Personally I think WOW is a little over rated. The game is pretty stable and runs well though it is horribly out dated. The graphics engine (it does scale nicely) is simply a revamped version of the WarCraft III engine. There is no in games physic engine, computer AI is very weak and the game gets terribly terribly repetitive. There isn't enough going on in WOW to keep players interested IMO. I started playing WOW shortly after it came out. I have a Paladin that I got to level 60 right around the time Burning Crusade came out. Other then give players outrageous goodies for questing and killing I didn't see what real "content" that expansion added.

I then quit playing WOW simply because I was bored stiff. A couple months ago I picked it back up, got a mage to level 50 then quit again - once again bored and annoyed by those hardcore players whose life is WOW. When you dissect WOW it's a fairly shallow RPG that doesn't offer near the level of customizability of many.

Gears is really sweet on the PC. I played through the 360 version and enjoyed it but wasn't raving about it. Gears on the PC is a lot better, the graphics are vamped up, the controls are tighter and the new content is sweet.

Thanks for the update gooseberry. Luckily I haven't purchased AOE and honestly I think I am going to cancel my WOW account because of the high latency. There are times in WOW that you cast a spell and it takes several seconds for the casting bar to start counting down or you go to loot a corpse and you get the "that item isn't ready yet" from your character.

It sounds like AOE's gameplay is even worse about this. I can connect my Blackberry wireless as a modem at 155k down and 50k up and as long as my reception is good my latency is under 1000 in WOW though down here where I live I get poor reception and still have latency in around the 1200-1500ms department.

Honestly Starband's service should be 1/4 the cost per month and for the equipment. Any amount of rain and your service is out. Yesterday my DL dropped to 70k down and 10k up and I called only to find out I violated Starband's fair access policy. If you DL more then 5 gigs of data per week they throttle back your connection speed to 70k down 10 up. I have never head of doing that before. They released the down speed but I still think that's a pathetic policy.

I agree that GPU will not cut it for gaming. I have an ge force 8600 256MB DDR3 and it is medicore, Im gonna upgrade to either the new 9800GT or an 8800GT soon. Also a Duo processor is really pushing it for gaming. Many of the new games coming out, especially shooters are taking advantage of quad level processors. A quad processor would be over twice as fast as that duo depending on how many ghz it was.

grunt,

I played ME on my PC with the following specs:

Intel Core Quad 2.4 ghz

2 GB RAM

Nvidia Ge Force 8600 GS 256 MB DDR3 RAM

That is a processor that is twice as fast as your duo and a better video card with DDR 3 ram, I think your 7950 is running DDR 2 with a slower clock speed. I was able to run ME at 1024 x 768 resoultion with all the settings on medium. At those settings I was getting a consistant 35 fps. Any higher and the frame rate was sketchy at best. Your SDTV is probably running the game in a resolution of 480i maybe 480p - not sure how progressive scan works on an SDTV. My guess is you will at least be able to squeeze 800x600 resolution out of ME and get the benefits of a better overall game since the combat is much better on PC.

First please don't tell me to get cable or DSL or any of those. I live in a rather rural area of MD and cable access is not avaliable and Verizon informed me that DSL was well over 1 year from making it to my area. My only internet options are satillete or dialing in with a Blackberry mobile device, though due to reduced cell phone reception in my area that does not work that well. My office was about 20m away and I was using a Comcast 5MB business cable connection that worked great. We built a new office on our property and the only high speed internet we could get was either Hughes Net or Starband. We opted for the Starband Nova 1500 (1.5 MB Download and 256k Upload).

The connection overall isn't bad, we get about 1500k pretty consistantly and we download at between 300-600k with an upload in around 150-200k. The problem for gaming is of course the latency. When I do a ping test the latency typically tests out at 600-800 ms though when you play World of Warcraft you normally get 800 latency to start then up to 2000 latency depending on where in the game you are. The game is playable though there are occassionally spikes of up over 3000 though that is very rare.

I was wondering if AOC would run as well as WOW using satillete internet. I have read reports saying it might and some saying no way. Anyone have any expierence playing AOC on a high latency connection?
