Xbox360 vs PS3
These are probably the most common threads. The thing is they always compare different games to each other. Since the 360 and PS3 are obviously so close graphically that there are always debates about this and so many of these threads are made. This is pretty dumb because it all depends on the developer. Like you can't say one 360 game has good textures while showing a completly different game from the PS3 with bad textures and then saying that it must mean the 360 is more powerful. And/or vice versa. All developers have different skills and art styles so it just might be that one developer is good at making water effects in some 360 game, while another developer on a different PS3 game might not have been able to get it right. This doesnt mean that the PS3 isn't powerful enough or can't do it. It just means that the developers are good at cetain things and just happened to release the game for that system. Or maybe a really talented developer makes a game for one system and pushes it to the max while the other system did not get that chance. People then post screenshots of that game and try to claim ownage over the other system. I'm just saying that if you want to compare graphics you should do it with multiplats. Because they are made by the same developer and usually released at the same time. BTW, when i say developer i don't really mean just the company, i mean the people themselves because people quit from companies and move on and stuff like that.
Wii vs last gen systems
Most of the people who make these threads seem to have problems being fair. We all know the Wii is way behind graphically and yes i have heard all the gameplay > graphics arguments. But people realize this and try to claim ownage by posting the best looking screenshots of last gen games and put them against the worst looking Wii screenshots they can find. Again, the developers have not fully tapped the Wii's potentail graphically or in terms of Wii controls. Why did a gamecube game (twilight princess) look better than almost all Wii launch titles? is it because the Wii isn't powerful enough, no. It's because twilight princess was pushing the gamecube to it's limits and was in development for like 3 years by Nintendo ( obviously the creator of the gamecube itself). while the other games had to be rushed and/or ported within about a year. We all know that if you look at the specs of the Wii it is more powerful than all of the other last gen systems. Trying to claim ownage over this fact is pretty much useless.
DS vs PSP
These threads are always hilarious, we all know graphics aren't the DS's selling point. I saw threads like these a few times but they were probably joke threads made by really bored people.
PC vs Consoles
Every time a console is released it is already obsolete. Computers are always growing and can be upgraded all the time. Posting a screenshot for one PC game that looks really good might not actually look like that on your computer, if your computer can run it all. These threads assume that the screenshots they posted is exactly what it will look like on your computer. But the fact is every computer is different and you might have to lower the resolution and effects just to get it to run smoothly. So people who try to claim ownage with these screenshots must be rich enough to fully upgrade their computers all the time. I have not seen many people trying to claim ownage over Consoles on this forum but i have seen them nonetheless.
In the end it seems that many people on these forums try to unfairly claim ownage and make their systems look better than the others. I guess that's the work of fanboys/girls at it's finest.
