Who here agrees with me that if Spyro The Dragon and Crash Bandicoot were still owned by their respective Sony First Party developers Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog, that the ps3 would not be facing most of its problems today? Let me start by saying that I grew up with the psone. I am 16, and When I was 7, I used to play Spyro and Crash on my psone. Back in those days, that was basically the best part of the Playstation brand. I was frustrated when Sony let go of their series early during the PS2 generation. IMO, the dumbest move anybody in this industry has ever made was allowing Insomniac and Naughty Dog to sell their biggest IPs to vevendi games.
Sony needs both Insomniac and NaughtyDog need to make TRUE sequels to the ORIGIONAL Spyro The Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot series. These have always been playstation brands. I was extremely dissapointed with the disaster that is The Legend Of Spyro series. Why is vevindi still making this!? Havent they realized that every single LOS game has flopped horribly? Both Spyro and Crash used to be the icons of the playstation brand, and they practically carried the psone the same way Mario carried Nintendo. Imagine if nintendo sold mario, and some other company made it a 3rd party game, made a spin-off series about it, and turned it into a 2.4 GS rating game. would you be frustrated? Now, remember when Spyro and Crash used to be the mascots of Sony, and were actually on par with Mario? I made a post similar to this in System Wars like 2 weeks ago, but didnt go into it nearly as much as this. I figured I would get much less bias in the PS3 forums. Nobody would say anything about a lack of games if Spyro and Crash were still part of Sony's First Party, in fact I bet we would see them everywhere, even gracing the PS3 boxes, and just about all commercials and ads.
Now, Insomniac and Naughty Dog are very good developers compared to Vevindi Universal. In that other thread, alot of people said that current gen sequels would flop horribly, but I strictly believe that Insomniac and ND would give SMG a run for its money (not that they would win, but still). Look at the graphical detail of Uncharted. Uncharted has a cartoony feel to it. Now I could honestly immagine them making a Crash game with the same detail of Uncharted, in fact just looking at gameplay demos of uncharted, the game plays very similar to Crash(or at least enough to get an accurate feel for what it would look like) and as a matter-of-fact, there are certain spots in the game, where I imagined Crash in the game. I was looking for a specific gameplay demo I watched earlier, but I couldnt find it. But I think that Sony would have much more of a fighting chance, had they not given up on their biggest first party icons. The topic, is if they had never sold the IPs to begin with, kept them up to date with todays standards, and used them as the systems mascots last gen and now. Ive said this many times, but I know Naughty Dog could have pulled it off, making a crash game with Uncharted graphics and detail.
