5 years ago the Next-generation of gaming was brought in. Online capabilities have grown beyond expectations, motion controls are changing the way we look at games and HD products are ushering in a new form of entertainment. But whats missing? How about the fact that corporate big wigs and greedy ideas are starting to sneak their way into our beloved franchises/systems. Forget the numbers and the fail rates, the fanboyism and the utter disregard for other's gaming decisions and look deeper into this situation. Over the past 5 years, there have been countless games bludgeoned to death by recycling the same idea and not offering any change to the details that are slowly failing the franchises. (Guitar Hero). I remember when I was excited about Guitar Hero III and now Im sick of seeing them on the shelves. I know it's about profit but whatever happened to making a product that people actually want/need?
The countless SKU issue is also causing tormoil. People are getting sick of buying a system only to have a new bundle and/orprice drop every 3-6 mths. A price drop is great, but can anyone tell me how many times the price drop/SKU issue hit the Xbox and PS2? You cant remember because it wasnt that often. Im offended by the "Big Three", thinking Ill buy into this crap anymore, you should be also. Dont get me wrong I love add-ons and peripherals as much as the next gamer but enough is enough. Im interested to know if the PS3 would have lost that much more Market Share if they had waited 3 more years, avoided the High retail price and would have eveything the slim has but releasing now. I believe this holiday season would have been all PS3, but wemight have seen the fall of Blu-Ray.
What are your expectations of the "The Big Three" in the next-gen? Do you expect reasonbly priced systems with interchangable hard drives (at a reasonable price)? How about 1 model change not 3-7? How about games that actually have a place on our shelves instead of in the garbage?(Theres always crap games but the Wii is really pushing the limits). The next time you buy a system think about this stuff, before longGAMERS, not people in general, wont be buying any system at launch for fear of a new system coming out 2 mths from now with a bigger HDD or a couple of games.
