Metal Gear saga - A Western epic made in Japan on Snake Eater

Snake's back for a new adventure in the third installment of the popular and famous Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater. This highly anticipated stealth adventure has lots to offer and gets more realistic both to look at and to live in as well. However this is not a continuation of its predecessor 'the Sons of Liberty', but a totally new perspective form the legendary Big Boss (father of the three snakes). It takes place during the cold war era, in a Russian jungle environment in the 1960's. Yes no longer running through enclosed spaces, now you're put in an open forest environment crawling with local flora and fauna and not to mention highly irritating enemy patrols. The main protagonist in this game is Jack, in the future known as Big Boss, who cloned himself and created his three sons Solid, Liquid and Solidus Snake. Big Boss is the title given to the greatest warrior of all times. Jack is codenamed as Naked Snake. He is a member of the Green Beret and is a CIA operative. . The head of the operation is Major-Zero who is voiced with a British accent, Paramedic who helps you to recognize flora and fauna, and also cure you. However she talks a lot about movies and also records your mission data. The other member is Mr. Sigint a weapons specialist. However the weapon and menu system in this game is very different from its predecessor. Snake Eater is known for its vast options and moves at your disposal, so that you can play according to your likes and provides a scope for fun filled experimentation. Besides from the entire game, the story seems to be very long and interwoven with so many characters popping every minute, the time line is very confusing. Kojima himself declared that he himself is still confused about the story; he says it's what happens when you make the future versions first. The game takes place before the first and second parts and therefore is considered a prequel to all the metal gear solids. The story involves a complex relationship between Snake and a woman called The Boss, and an uprising Russian sadomasochistic General named Volgin, who possess the Shagohod, a tank capable of launching nuclear warheads (more like the first metal gear unit ever made). The game still has many features like camouflage, curing options, food hunting and many more. You also have CQC at your disposal which stands for close quarter's combat which consists a wide variety of moves. . You can slit throats, break their necks, use enemy as body shield, approach them from behind and knock them out, tease them by threatening and even interrogate them for some very entertaining results. The story is an epic like The Mahabharata, with a lot of characters coming in and also having stories of their own to tell. It's so vast that almost every part is half filled with nothing but cut scenes and movies. Kojima is definitely a great artist at what he does and is definitely worth the praises. Although to make the game interesting, there are certain unlockables and costumes you can get, like the sorrow uniform, the moisant- nagant rifle from The End, The Fear costume, EZ gun, the patriot etc. All of these can only be obtained by completing boss fights in a very strange pattern. For example to get the Fears uniform you will have to kill him by non-lethal means, or to get the rifle from The End, you have to wait for seven days for his natural death. Only some games are capable of being very realistic and fun at the same time. Who thought you could eliminate The End a long time before you even face thereby canceling the boss fight. There are some awfully non realistic sequences in the game. One for instance is when Eva takes her motorcycle and rides it down through the gate of that old factory after the ocelot showdown. I must enquire how she got through the next region which consists of a large lake and lots of electrocuted fences. It's made to look more like a spy thriller like James Bond with a lot of fancy action sequences. But the technology portrayed in the game is also not in sync with the 1960's. The game however portrays flying platforms which supports only one person. The game is filled with 'cheesy' action sequences which are also very interesting to watch and enjoy. Thee most admirable part of the game is the forest and its animals. Konami has done a great job of rendering perfect jungle terrains which include lakes, swamps and also mountains. The game is considerably long and takes off with a slow pace. There are also a lot of moves and the controls take getting used to. And like all metal gears this one too has a lot of movies and conversations. Other than that the game is incredible with great graphics, phenomenal music and fantastic cut scenes. The game received a lot of great reviews and awards, and is critically acclaimed for its special nature. Guess another great job from Hideo Kojima the mastermind behind the series, definitely a worthy addition to your games-to-be-played list.
