The Big 3 E3 Conferences

3.Microsoft

Shadow Complex: Looks great and seems to be a must-have title for XBLA.

Joy Ride: Umm, ok. Is this REALLY what MS created a whole new studio for? Oh, well, could be decent mixing cart racing with skateboarding-like tricks.

Crackdown 2: Sequal to a fairly successful game. This could be one to keep an eye on.

Halo ODST: Ok, so I wasn't really sold on this before, but the gameplay looks really interesting and definitely put this on my watch list. I can't wait to find out more of the features this will come with (multiplayer modes, length, etc.)

Halo Reach: Good to know, but with not even a screen shot or genre placement, not much to react to.

Splinter Cell Conviction: Looks amazing. I know, I know, it's multi-platform, but the developer has seemed to have really taken advantage of the extended development time and the demo put this on my must-have list. I particularly liked the projected images in-game to keep the player active and involved.

Forza 3: Looks amazing and is definitely another must-have title. The physics seem to be revamped and improved, hopefully they'll let players use pictures to paint their cars with and improve the auction process (minor quibbles).

Alan Wake: Looks good, but I need to see more. Unless this game only happens at night, I have the feeling the daytime sequences will be dramatically different and focus more on sleuthing and discovery than the action that was shown.

Metal Gear Solid Rising: Good to know. But with the lack of real info, not much to react to.

Facebook/Twitter: Since I've been able to use these with my CELL PHONE for some time, now, not particularly impressed.

Natal: Neat concept, but I have my doubts whether it will be any more successful than the Vision Camera or Eye Toy. Of particular irrelevance was MS's insistence that their peripheral will be compatible with every 360 now and in the future. No, really? I thought MS would only make it compatible with a few 360's. :?

The rest of the games were nice to see, but hardly MS focused.

other thoughts: Where's Rare?

2.Nintendo

New Super Mario Wii: A bit of a surprise and the DS version was excellent. I have no doubt this version will be just as fun.

Mario Galaxy 2: Sequel to a smash hit and will no doubt be a must-have title. While at first glance, it may seem little has changed, Nintendo always has a trick up their sleeve.

Motion Plus: A bit of a rehash from last year, and I'm frankly surprised that this hasn't been released in the West already.

Red Steel 2: Seems to be what everyone wanted Red Steel to be and more.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again: Same fun gameplay with new features and user-created content. What's not to like?

Wii Vitality Sensor: Gee, a heart rate monitor, just what I always wanted?!

Metroid: Other M: Huge. This could be the start of a new era at Team Ninja no longer shackled to MS and traditional games by Itagaki. Yes, Itagaki is a great developer, but I think this new direction could be even better.

Other thoughts: No Dragon Quest? And where's my Professor Layton 2?!!!

1.Sony

Uncharted 2: Looks amazing. Very clean and very intense. This is a must-have title for this holiday season.

MAG: Looks good, not great. This could be the definitive multi-player title on PS3, but we really need to see more, specifically how well it handles the end-game where everyone is duking it out.

PSP Go: Ok, nice to know, but not really caring.

Gran Turismo PSP: This still exists? Well, it's good to get a release date and it looks amazing for the PSP. Here's a translation; Polyphony Digital release date of Oct. 2009 = real world release date Dec. 2009.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: Looks great! I'll definitely have to dust off my PSP soon.

LittleBigPlanet PSP: Known, but is looking great.

Agent: Good to know, but without any details, not much to react to.

Assassins Creed II: Looks amazing and another must-have title for whatever system you own.

Final Fantasy XIV: Quite a surprise and could be a great MMO for PS3 and PC owners.

Playstation motion controller: Neat idea but I doubt it will be any more successful than Microsoft's idea, prehaps less since it also requires the EyeToy.

ModNation Racers: Looks like a lot of fun with a very easy editor.

The Last Guardian: Huge. This was a fantastic trailer and, given the studio's track record, this is another must-have title.

Gran Turismo 5: Looks great, and with the addition of NASCAR and WRC licenses, definitely a must have whenever it sees light of day.

God of War 3: Looks amazing and terrific ending to the show.
