Everyone wants a cloud gaming device except the people playing the games. This will meet the same fate as Stadia. You can already use your phone to play remotely. No one is going to buy this.
It doesn't help that many, many of the Series controllers, including the Elite Series 2 are inherently defective. The controller is designed in such a way that some of the buttons don't register properly, especially the A button. I have returned several Elite Series 2 controllers since they have been released before finally switching to a PS5 controller (for PC). This was not an issue with Xbox One controllers. MS redesigned the internals of the controllers which causes the issue.
VRR should have been in there on day 1. It's obvious they are waiting until Sony TVs get VRR (none of them have it yet). VRR is basically an advertised feature of the console, though, and it still isn't working almost a year after launch.
I wouldn't ever expect 1440p support even though it would be easy for them and Microsoft supports it. Sony only cares about TV support and while many TVs can support 1440p it isn't a typical TV resolution.
I doubt people are actually paying. It's a traditional past time to drive those sales sky high and then not pay. I would imagine some dumb people are paying up to $2k but any more is probably a sale that isn't getting paid.
Remember how well it turned out when Microsoft tried to buy its way into streaming and competing with Twitch? I don't think this ends well for some of these studios.
