why am I a nintendo fangirl?

Its not something I usually admit, in fact its not something I really consider that much but it turns out I am. Looking at my console history, I've grew up in a household that had every major Nintendo home console starting with the famicom and moving onto the Wii. My Nintendo fandom isn't a conscious choice however, its one of cause and effect, perhaps its my scientific background that screams out for experimentation in all walks of life (yes even the bedroom, I'll have you know that combining acids and bases doesn't have to be limited to the lab, though you do have to be careful about producing noxious gasses). But that's what Nintendo do with their consoles, the N64 was an experiment on using cartridges for (at the time) modern gaming to prevent the horrendous load time of cd games, the gamecube was an experiment with their small discs and then there's the wii... Ah yes the wii, a grand experiment in so many ways and if you think the experiment is over yet then you are so very, very wrong. I do feel however that there is a lost cause when it comes to the wii, unfortunately developers seem to be unable to ignore the wiimote, they feel they have to use its technology when a lot of games could actually benefit from not using it. I think a fair example is Zelda twilight princess, the game functions largely as a normal game, the only difference is instead of an attack button you wiggle the wiimote in any direction and you use the pointer to aim, just like an old light gun game! Yet with minimal use of the wii's special functions Zelda is one of its biggest games, but wait there's more! Smash bros Brawl literally ignores the wii's special functions, even in the menus you cannot use the pointer! Instead you use the wiimote and nunchuck as a normal controller, and why not? Between the wiimote and the nunchuck there are 12 buttons available, a quick study of a ps2 controller reveals it has 14 buttons, I hardly feel that is a limiting factor! In short the wiimote is capable of amazing things and if a developer wants to create something astounding with it then they can do (Look at the silent hill re-imagining for a great use of the wiimote) however that shouldn't prevent your average developer from treating it as any other console, its a crime how little attention 3rd party developers pay to the little white box. Sometimes you need the latest, flashiest technology and sometimes you just need a light switch, fortunately the flashy technology has a light switch built in, so don't be afraid to use it! As long as there's mario, link and samus there will always be a nintendo home console! Doumo arigatou gozaimasu!
