just bought a 360 and tried to connect to the internet. did it directly through the modem but somehow when it was testing my connection, the first test (the wired one, i forgot what the test was called) passed, but the second one, the IP address did not. i got an error of X: 4000-1001, the rest, if i recalled correctly were all zeros.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

plus, the IP address settings were on automatic. (actually everything else was on automatic)

so i know that a 360 can be hooked up to your computer monitor via a VGA cable. but there isn't a special 360 VGA cable, is there? so i can just use the VGA cable i have on my PC and use it on my 360 right? and by using this method would it usually yeild better visual quality than an SDTV?

i do want a new KotOR, but in terms of story, they wrapped it up pretty nicely. so if there ever was a new game by bioware acting kinda like a 'spiritual successor' it'd be just fine. the gameplay was the meat of the game (besides the story, which was basically the plate the meat was served on.

Get with 2007 kid, HD-TVs are fastly becoming the norm. Its predicted that the Cable and Satellite companies are going to move to all HD by 2010. I just bought a 19" 720p for $300 Thats not expensive at all, hell its still cheaper than the 360 your playing. And really 720p is all you need, 1080p is good but most things other than like HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray don't look very nice on it. TV doesn't look as great as people say and not many games look all that good on it because most are actually upscaled.Ket87

oh please don't think that way... if 300 bucks (and that's not even counting the price of the console, the games, the appropriate cables, and live subscription) is cheap to your eyes, then good for you buddy. but there are people out there who don't have jobs, are still students or are still living in their parents house. and maybe... they just live unfortunate lives, who knows

and if microsoft and game developers keep on limiting their target audience to just HDTV owners, well that's just them being dicks. therefore, there is no logical reason not to optimize their games for SDTVs, and there's no reason for anyone to push people to buy HDTVs no matter if they are 'the norm'.

and the funny thing is, i bet most of the HDTV users don't even make use of their TV's HD functionality. heck, most of them probably wouldn't even know what those 720 and 1080 p's and i's stand for. and you say your local stores carry less SDTV, well, your local stores doesn't mean it's everybody else's too.

currently, skies of arcadia. granted, i'm only 6 hours in, and although i do like it, i'm still not reaching the 'love' status yet. people have been praising it but i still haven't seen the appeal yet. and so far, it's one helluva cliche'd game. hopefully i'll start to love it the more i play it.

since i sold my ps2 (worst mistake of my gaming life) and my pc is **** i depended on my DS for my entertainment needs so, the top 5 best games i played the past 11 months are:

1)hotel dusk: i love this game to death, that is all

2)pokemon diamond: it's been awhile since i played a pokemon game (kinda dozed off after ruby). too bad i didn't get the chance to take advantage of its online gameplay mechanics

3)the sims 2 series: i bought the whole collection of expansion packs till seasons. had tons of fun, too bad my gaming PC's dead

4)zelda phatom hourglass: i don't play a lot of zeldas simply cos i don't have the systems, so i was excited when i knew it's coming to the DS. awesome game, but somehow i couldn't care for it enough to finish it. maybe later when i buy my DS lite

5)metroid prime: easily the highlight of the year for me. borrowed a friend's gamecube and after a full week of prime goodness this game just so happens to be one of my favorite games of all time.

The Orange Box. It's spectacular, but I'll NEVER touch the damned thing.Shadowscale18

i don't have that game (heck, i don't even have a 360), but do you have a particular reason why you won't touch it. it's funny how you say it's spectacular but you... never touch it? actually i'm confused by this topic, are we supposed to name games we know is good, other people like it, but we personally dislike the game? or do we name games we like... but hate? okay, that doesn't make sense.

but anyway... if we're talking about good games accepted by many but somehow it didn't click personally, i have to say god of war, hands down. i don't get the hype, i think it's DMC/NG for kids with a 'mashbuttons-defend-mash' combat peppered with QTE (which is probably the laziest thing a designer could ever do as an excuse to spruce up the combat). to see it getting awards was painful.

The bit in Resident Evil 2 in the police interview room made me jump out of my seat as did the man in the oven in Resident Evil 4.

Also, I was pretty spooked by Doom 3 as well. The bit where you go into some control room and one of those giant four-legged beasts starts battering the door down gave me a total panic moment.

However, the most scary moment was the first few marine levels on Aliens vs Predator. The first time that the motion detector started beating had my pulse racing. As it turned out I spent the first 30 minutes approaching a lift!-INKling-

i don't play much horror games, but RE4 was the one and only horror games that i enjoy immensely both from the thrill of the suspense as well as the shootouts. and the oven man was the highlight of the game for me in terms of it's surprise-o-meter.
