Michael Bay 'Reveals' Microsoft's HD-DVD Conspiracy

This is a straight copy from this article on MegaGames.com

It's not uncommon for fans to question why a certain movie was released on some high definition format and not the other, but Michael Bay's answer was not that common.

On his official forum, Michael Bay was asked why the Transformers movie was released on HD-DVD and not Blu-ray. The famous Hollywood director's answer was that Microsoft is behind a scheme to sabotage both high-definition disc formats.

"What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads", Michael Bay said. "That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth."

Paramount, the studio behind Transformers, and DreamWorks signed an exclusive HD-DVD agreement on 20 August 2007. Several news sources reported that the two studios received $150 million in financial incentives for their commitment to HD-DVD.

Similar allegations were made a month ago by 20th Century Fox's president Mike Dunn at a Blu-ray festival. At the time, Kevin Collins, director in the Microsoft Consumer Media Technology Group, said that "the [Blu-ray] camp's claims about Microsoft's desire to have a format war are baseless. Microsoft has over 100 people working on HD DVD interactivity and we believe that HD DVD is the next-generation optical format."

If you ask me, I'd say this sounds very likely.

Well, I've made up my mind.

While I don't believe a word Mr. Brannan says. I am not going to leave this site.

Not only because I think IGN's page is just messy. But because of the editors that are left. Yeah, it hasn't been the same since Greg, Bob, Carrie and Rich left, and now Jeff was, shall we say "encouraged" to leave... Its going to be different. But that's life. The fact is that I still care for, and will follow these editors.

I hope Jeff strikes big where ever he goes. And I will still follow him where he goes (If possible of course) And it will be interesting to see how things will go here. It's still possible to check other reviews, and compare the two and than make up my mind about that.

The editors and programmers (also known as slaves) on GS aren't to blame, the heartless suits on CNet are.

About the recent happenings.

I would like to say that I hope we all are wrong, and that Jeff has left on other reasons.

What can I say, I sort of kinda dislike GS right now. I mean, Jeff is the most knowledgeable person in the world when it comes to games(GregK is a close second). And he's always been really honest, spoken straight from the liver all the time. You might not agree with some reviews, but who agrees with a critic all the time?

I don't really know how to take this. This is a CNet act, because he was EIC of GS. So the people that could fire him would have to be from CNet. This is probably because Eidos has a huge campaign for K&L on GS, through CNet. Will there ever be a honest review on GS again... can we trust them?

I like the editors on GS. They are great people that know games and have a strong opinion. But I guess the only way you can really be sure is to wait and see.

Will miss you Jeff...

Icy roads...

Well, it's that time of year when the roads here in Norway get icy, and the sentence "oh my god, that was close!!" is constantly used. And that's exactly what happens to me, well sort of. I was happily driving home after I had purchased Mass Effect. Now, steel ice is some of the most interesting surfaces to drive on. And it should be tried. Anyway, the car took a 180 on me and went ass first into the snow before I could even start thinking about doing something. When the car finally stopped skidding I was about 5 meters in a grain field. Well, I called for help. And though myself pretty lucky.

Ore was I? There is something incredibly embarrassing about sitting in a car, 5 meters(about 16 feet) in on a snowy grain field for 40 minutes waiting for that goddamn tow-truck. Unlike the steel ice, this should not be tried. But all in all I guess I was pretty lucky. The car didn't even get a scratch. Something that is pretty amazing.

How ever, playing Mass Effect now. It's pretty good; only wish I could get my self to save more often. I am currently on my 3rd try on the big plant thing. Looking very promising though.

My letter to Assassin's Creed. Maybe some spoilers.

Dear Assassin's Creed.

Well, last Saturday I got you in the mail. You where in a dark brow letter wrapped in bubble wrap. I remember it as it was yesterday. I inserted you into my 360, and as I heard the DVD-room started spinning you, I could feel the hair on my neck rising.

At first sight you looked as beautiful as I had hoped. Then leading me through fantastic voice acting and great animations, teaching me how to handle you, lead you. Setting the premise for things too come.

Do you remember our first assassination? Oh the times we had. Such fun and excitement I had almost forgotten. Soon leading you was child's play. We grew together as one. Countering all that came in our path. Setting the stage for the solutions, revelations... end.

What happened? Did I do something wrong? Why is this text rolling on my screen? After all this, you leave me like this, you take me to the skies, but then you don't tell me how to get down, you drop me? No, a fall from the skies would only break my bones, not my heart. You leave me here, with riddles to no where. Nonetheless, you are gone. For how long, you never said. I can only dim the lights, reminisce and dream. Dream of the day I will se you again.

Forever your's, BarlienB.

Anyway, this is because Assassin's Creed ends with the biggest cliff-hanger since Halo 2. And that the sequel ain't coming for a while.

This is kinda late, but I just forgot to do it.

Well, after E3 I actually saw what a geek I actually am. I mean, should I be proud about my emblems? Well, I am, but should I?

I guess not, but its not like it was planned ore anything. Just happend to have the week off. Just bought a new 37" TV, that I hooked up with my PC. It was as one would call "A perfect storm". One culd call me weird, stupid ore even a looser. What makes this even worse is the fact that I'm Norwegian. So, the show started at like 7 pm. Making me stay up untill like 5:30 am one night. People just don't understand why I am so interested in waching people talk and comment about games.

But when I look back at E3, all I can remember, are the peeps in Room #4. And Knowing now that it was Rich's last big "thing" before moving. In the end, I guess I dont really look at those emblems and see wasted time. I see good times, with people that have the same intrest's as me, and same humor(bad that is) So I guess that's why I'm proud of those emblems.

Epic, you made the best. You've earned the most, but don't forget you're roots.

What happens when a developer, such as Epic. That always have been about the fans. That always have helped aspiring developers, up and into the industry. Falls from grace, and starts hiring marketing people. That want's more monney, more fame and less competition.

Well, I think this link answers allot of those questions. Here

This is my comment on the recent Silicon Knights lawsuit against Epic.

This is not a huge suprize. Look how Epic are representing them selfs. When they show a Unreal Tournament 3 video, it always says "From the makers of Gears of War". Why the hell would a developer like Epic and a game like UT3 have to promote theme selfs like that? I mean Gears of War is not even a blimp on the radar compared to UT3!

What I feel is the reason for this, is that Epic has hired people that think more about the buck's. And don't really know games. I mean, UT is one of the best FPS shooters of all time, and they feel like a good game(compared to other UT's) like GoW will help sell the online shooter that built upon quake, and made online shooters what they are too day. Then there is something wrong in Epic!! Clean up in you're own ranks Epic, before its too late.

Whats youre thought's, please post a comment.

The E3 I wanted...

I really missed the ear-deffening E3. There is nothing like it in the whole entertainment industry. And the fact that there are more than 5000 media people that could have been allowed a pass. Makes me angry that the show floor was that small.

What about having a "almost E3 06" and then let only like 10000 people in a day. Where say, 2000 of them could be gamers that bought tickets to enter the show for one day. The rest where authorized proper media people.

What is the REAL shame about this is Kentia hall. Where aspiring developers and inventions are shown. (Say, Harmonix) This is a true shame and contradicts what i thought allot of E3 was about.

So, thats what I wish they did for next year. But we all know that that will never happen. I just hope that they will up the show floor, and allow more developers in there. Ore else, I fear the end of E3, will be complete.
